Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, the former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has spoken out for the first time since his removal, claiming that the process didn't follow due process and constitutional procedure ¹. Obasa, who returned to Lagos amidst cheers from his supporters, emphasized the importance of adhering to constitutional guidelines when removing a speaker.
He also addressed allegations of multibillion naira corruption, calling them "impossible" and expressing confidence in his innocence. Obasa assured his supporters that he's not disturbed or afraid, and he's committed to debunking the allegations leveled against him.
Following his removal, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda was sworn in as the new Speaker, having secured the acceptance of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC). Obasa's removal and Meranda's appointment have significant implications for the Lagos State House of Assembly and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
