For my marriage to be where it is today, it took intentionality from both of us. We didn’t walk into the union already made. In fact, we came in with struggles, financially, emotionally, and mentally. We’ve seen tough times. We’ve had days where we couldn’t even afford basic comforts, times we cried silently and almost gave up.

But what kept us going was the decision to fight for each other, not with each other. We worked hard, encouraged one another, forgave deeply, prayed consistently, and never allowed third parties to define us.

Many people admire the smiles, the matching outfits, the anniversary posts, but they don’t see the behind-the-scenes: the late-night arguments, the debts, the hustle, and the faith it took to keep building. Marriage isn’t magic, it’s hard work. So if you’re in it or planning to go into it, know that effort from both sides is key. We suffered, but today we’re enjoying, and it’s worth it.

5- “I love you” means that I know your deepest secrets and do not judge you for them, asking in return that you do not judge me for mine.

6- It means that I care enough to fight for what we have and that I love you enough not to let go.

7- It means thinking of you, dreaming of you, wanting and needing you constantly, and hoping you feel the same way too.
