Take your time to read the comments of the Boys and Girls at the special correctional Centers in Lagos.

I facilitated the feedback session in the Life-changing Sensitization, asking the wards. What do you want the Government to do for you? reading some of these comments and feedback, at a point I was emotional, many of them are living in regret paying for their sins/crimes, and many have learned their lessons waiting to be reintegrated into society. Every child deserves a right, because they are in special correctional centers does not mean it is the end of life.
The Government cannot do it alone, With the Pen-Chant World Initiative we can help and assist these children to be a better agent in society when finally reintegrated.

5 days to go. With our support, no matter how little it is, these wards in the Special Correctional Centres for Boys and Girls respectively, will appreciate it.

Thanks.

As much as compassion and ensuring that those incarcerated don't require a second chance, what about adolescents detained by the state and housed in the specialized correctional facilities designated for boys and girls, respectively?
One bright Monday, I was taken from the serene and tranquil surroundings of the University of Lagos to the iconic Ojuelegba and finally to the Idi-Araba neighborhood, where I was welcomed into the world of Special Girls incarcerated.

As I walked through the door, everything was going according to plan. Four women greeted me at the same time and asked to know why I was there. I explained to them in a calm and more relaxed manner after observing the group of about twenty girls acting cheerfully and confidently without concern for their surroundings. It was eventually explained to me that there were perhaps 250 girls in total serving time..

I found myself naturally slipping into a deep conversation with the home's official about the welfare of these girls, learning more about juveniles and the only reasons these girls ended up at this special correctional center. My eyes grew cold, my body shivered, my feet stood erect, and my vision blurred because of the promising future held at these facilities, due to the ever-changing circumstances and, occasionally, mistakes of ignorance and stubbornness.

The officials helped me to understand that a large number of people had committed capital crimes, some of which included r**e, theft, some of which were the result of unfortunate circumstances, all of them have turned around and are now willing to be reintegrated into society as change agents.
My attention was drawn to a situation when one of the girls, Tope (not her real name), was called. She answered quickly, and the official explained that she is a bright and intelligent girl who came to this place due to a complicated set of circumstances. She wants to become a doctor in the future so that she can help the people with less privileges when she eventually regains her freedom.

All of us have a responsibility to work toward the release of these youngsters from special correctional facilities, to bring joy to their faces, and to see the realization of their dreams. Like Tope, many of us have dreams, but if you oppose a program like this, those dreams of those in these centers may never come true.
There are eight days left to the Pen-Chant World Initiative Life-Changing Sensitization on May 25, 2024. We want to purchase ball, chess/scrabble sets game, sanitary products, and other assets for these wards.
