Senator Godswill Akpabio sworn-in as Senate President yesterday after defeating his rival, Senator Abdulaziz Yari. The former governor of Akwa Ibom state have been confirmed as the leader of the 10th Senate.
Perhaps this seems like a good time to review the duties and responsibilities of the Senate President in Nigeria. They include the following:
1. Presiding over Senate sessions: The Senate President is responsible for chairing the sessions of the Senate. He ensures that debates are conducted in an orderly manner, and has the power to maintain order and enforce the rules of the Senate.
2.
