The Guinean 🇬🇳 Football Federation has reportedly written to CAF, citing safety concerns for its national team ahead of the 2027 AFCON qualifier against South Africa.

According to Afrik-Foot, the concerns are tied to recent anti-illegal immigration protests and calls for the deportation of undocumented foreign nationals in parts of South Africa. CAF has reportedly received the letter and is expected to evaluate the situation before making a decision.

The qualifiers begin in September, with Guinea placed in Group D alongside co-hosts Kenya, South Africa, and Eritrea. No official ruling has been announced, and the fixture remains scheduled as planned.

Armed Men Hijack Funeral Convoy in Kogi, Abduct Mourners and Body of FRSC Deputy Commander; Demand ₦50m Ransom

A group of suspected gunmen have abducted several mourners who were escorting the remains of a Federal Road Safety Corps officer to Benue State for burial, after ambushing their convoy in Kogi State.

The victims were traveling with the body of Deputy Corps Commander Augustine O. Ikwue when they were attacked along the Ososo–Ajaokuta axis of Kogi State.

According to reports from citizen journalist and activist Meddy Olotu, the gunmen intercepted the funeral procession, abducted the mourners along with the co**se, and forced them into the bush.

He stated that the kidnappers later abandoned the body, which was subsequently recovered around Ejule in Kogi State.

The abducted mourners, however, remain in captivity.
Olotu added that the kidnappers are demanding ₦50 million for the release of the victims.

Describing the incident as heartbreaking, he decried the worsening insecurity in the country, stating that even the dead are no longer allowed to “rest in peace.”
“What kind of country are we living in? Even the dead cannot rest in peace,” he said.

He urged security agencies and relevant authorities to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted mourners and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The late Deputy Corps Commander Augustine O. Ikwue was scheduled to be buried on Friday in Ai-Ode, Upu Community, Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, before the tragic attack disrupted the funeral procession.
