Google recently unveiled Wear OS 7, its Android-based smartwatch software, at the Google I/O Conference. Although the update is slated for release later this year, it promises several innovative features, including Live Updates support, a revamped widget interaction experience, and more. Notably, while some of these features are already available to Apple Watch users via watchOS 26 (and earlier updates), Wear OS 7 is poised to outperform in areas like integrated AI support, courtesy of Gemini, along with new tools for developers to craft fitness apps and enhanced media control. Given the emphasis on built-in AI, a feature Apple is unlikely to introduce on the Apple Watch despite collaborating with Google on a custom Gemini model for Siri, Apple currently offers limited Apple Intelligence features on watchOS 26 that require an iPhone. The Apple Watch, although the market's most popular smartwatch, lacks features Google has just announced for Android, which may not be adopted in watchOS 27.
