FG STRENGTHENS ROLE OF TRADITIONAL INSTITUTIONS IN SECURITY AND GOVERNANCE

The Federal Government, under the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has adopted a strategic approach to addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic and security challenges by deepening collaboration with traditional institutions across the country.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Chieftaincy Matters, Alh. Abbas Tijjani Hashim (Sarkin Sudan of Kano), made this known while addressing development partners in line with the President’s directive.

He explained that the initiative is focused on leveraging grassroots intelligence through traditional rulers to strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture. According to him, traditional institutions remain critical stakeholders in community-based intelligence gathering and conflict resolution.

The strategy also aims to promote development through data-driven asset management, while expanding and redefining the roles of traditional rulers within the modern governance framework.

Discussions at the meeting highlighted the importance of organizing enlightenment forums for traditional leaders and updating their responsibilities to align with current realities and national priorities.

Alh. Abbas Tijjani Hashim reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to working closely with traditional rulers at all levels to enhance national security, unity, and sustainable development.

Press Release, KSHC

CODE OF CONDUCT BUREAU TAKES SENSITIZATION DRIVE TO KSHC, STRENGTHENS CULTURE OF INTEGRITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY

The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has carried out a sensitization and enlightenment visit to the Kano State Housing Corporation (KSHC) as part of its sustained efforts to promote ethical conduct, transparency, and accountability among public servants. The visit was designed to deepen awareness and understanding of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers and to strengthen compliance with constitutional and statutory obligations in the public service
The sensitization exercise focused on educating staff of the Corporation on the mandate, roles, and core activities of the Code of Conduct Bureau, with particular emphasis on the proper completion, submission, and verification of Assets Declaration Forms as required by law. Officials of the Bureau provided comprehensive explanations on categories of public officers mandated to declare assets, the timelines for declaration—upon assumption of office, periodically as prescribed, and at the end of service—as well as the legal consequences of non-compliance, late submission, or false declaration.

Speaking during the session, the Head of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Hajiya Larai Ibrahim, represented by Mohd Ibrahim Khalifa, stressed that the Bureau’s mandate is not to witch-hunt public officers but to guide, enlighten, and support them in upholding integrity, probity, and adherence to the rule of law in the discharge of their official responsibilities. He explained that asset declaration is a constitutional requirement intended to promote transparency, deter corrupt practises, and strengthen public confidence in government institutions.

Participants were further taken through an in-depth and practical session by the Legal Officer of the Bureau, Barrister Atika Abdullahi Idris, who presented a step-by-step guide on how to correctly complete the Assets Declaration Forms. She highlighted common mistakes often made by public officers, outlined best practices to ensure accuracy, and explained the procedures for submission, verification, and record-keeping.

The session was highly interactive, providing staff of KSHC the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarifications on grey areas related to asset declaration and ethical obligations. These concerns were clearly and satisfactorily addressed by officials of the Bureau, thereby enhancing participants’ understanding and confidence in complying with the requirements

Officials of the Code of Conduct Bureau explained that the visit forms part of its ongoing nationwide sensitization campaign aimed at deepening awareness of ethical standards, promoting accountability, and entrenching a culture of integrity across public sector institutions at all levels of government.
In his remarks, the Managing Director of the Kano State Housing Corporation, Alh. Abdullahi Rabiu, represented by the Deputy Managing Director, Engr. Isyaku Umar Kwa, expressed appreciation to the Code of Conduct Bureau for the timely and impactful sensitization visit. He described the engagement as a welcome development that would further enhance compliance, professionalism, and ethical standards within the Corporation.

He assured the CCB delegation of the management’s firm commitment to ensuring that all staff of the Corporation fully comply with the provisions of the Code of Conduct for Public Officers and other relevant regulations guiding public service operations. Alh. Abdullahi Rabiu further reiterated that the Kano State Housing Corporation remains steadfast in its commitment to the principles of transparency, accountability, and good governance, as championed by the administration of His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Executive Governor of Kano State. He urged staff to take the sensitization exercise seriously and to apply the knowledge gained in the effective and ethical discharge of their daily duties.
