WHITE DIARRHEA IN POULTRY

White diarrhea, often a symptom of pullorum disease is a serious condition that can cause significant mortality, especially in young birds.

Pullorum disease is a bacteria infection caused by Salmonella enterica.

It can cause high mortality in young chicks and adult birds may show decrease egg production.

*TRANSMISSION

The disease is primarily transmitted from infected parent birds through the egg to the chick. It can also spread horizontally within a flock through contaminated feed, water or environment.

*TREATMENT

Antibiotics treatment, while sometimes used, does not eliminate the carrier state and is generally discouraged. Prevention is key!

That is by practicing proper hygiene, removal of infected birds, biosecurity, rodent and pest control.
