Troops Rescue Wife of Retired General Rabe Abubakar in Katsina, Intensify Offensive Against Bandits
Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have rescued Mrs. Abubakar, wife of retired Maj.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar, following a shootout with armed bandits in Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Military sources told _Zagazola_ that the operation, conducted under _Operation CLEAN SWEEP III_, followed intelligence-led offensives launched in Matazu and adjoining communities after the abduction of the retired senior officer and his family.
According to the sources, troops made contact with the bandits at Tunga village during a search-and-rescue operation. The armed group fled after coming under heavy military pressure.
“The bandits shot her and fled when we made contact at Tunga village. We have rescued Mrs. Abubakar. She is bleeding, we have given her first aid and are moving her for urgent medical attention,” a military source said.
The rescued victim was immediately stabilised by troops on the ground before being evacuated to a medical facility for further treatment.
Military authorities confirmed that follow-up operations have been intensified in the area, with troops sustaining a coordinated pursuit of fleeing bandits and suspected kingpins believed to be responsible for the attack and earlier abduction.
They added that the ongoing clearance operation under _Operation CLEAN SWEEP III_ will continue until all criminal hideouts are dismantled.
Security sources assured that the military remains committed to tracking down those responsible and ensuring they are brought to justice.

Court Orders INEC to Deregister ADC, Accord, Others; Bars Atiku, Adeleke From 2027, Osun Polls
Justice Peter Odo Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately deregister the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Accord Party and other listed parties from participating in the 2027 general elections over alleged constitutional breaches.
Justice Lifu issued the order on Monday while delivering judgment in a suit filed by a group of former lawmakers in the country.
By the judgment, former Vice President and presidential candidate of the ADC, Atiku Abubakar, has no platform on which to contest the forthcoming presidential election.
Similarly, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is billed to seek re-election in the August 15 governorship election on the platform of the Accord Party, has been kicked out of the race.
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2637/2026, was instituted by the Incorporated Trustees of the National Forum of Former Legislators against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and several political parties, including the ADC, Action Alliance, APP, Accord Party and Zenith Labour Party.
The court held that the affected parties breached constitutional provisions, warranting their deregistration by INEC.
The ruling effectively removes the parties from INEC’s register, barring them from fielding candidates in the 2027 general elections and other upcoming polls.

Israel Not a Banana Republic: Ben-Gvir Rejects Trump-Iran Deal
Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has publicly distanced his country from a peace agreement announced by United States President Donald Trump between Washington and Iran, declaring that Israel is not bound by the deal and must continue pursuing what he described as its security interests.
Ben-Gvir, a prominent far-right member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, made the remarks in a post on X on Monday, after Trump announced that the United States and Iran had reached an agreement to end hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping.
“Trump's agreement does not bind us. Israel is not subject to the United States, and we are an independent and sovereign nation,” Ben-Gvir wrote.
“Our duty is to the citizens of Israel, to the soldiers of the IDF, and to the Jewish people.”
The Israeli minister's comments appeared to expose divisions within Israel over the implications of the agreement, which Trump described as a major diplomatic breakthrough capable of bringing “Peace and Security” to the Middle East.
Ben-Gvir argued that Israel's security concerns remain unresolved and warned against what he described as yielding to international pressure.
“Every time we succumbed to international pressure at the expense of Israel's security, we paid a blood price with interest,” he said, citing the Oslo Accords, the 2006 Lebanon agreement and previous ceasefire arrangements in Gaza.
The minister insisted that Israel should not compromise on its military objectives in Lebanon and rejected any arrangement that would leave Hezbollah intact.
“My position is clear: We are not partners to this agreement that does not ensure our security, and it does not bind us in any way,” he stated.
“We must not compromise on anything less than the dismantling of Hezbollah. We must not withdraw from any territory that our fighters have captured and cleared of terror infrastructure.”
Ben-Gvir further called for an aggressive military response to any future attacks originating from Lebanon, saying every drone, missile or rocket launched toward Israel should trigger immediate retaliatory strikes on Beirut’s southern suburb of Dahiya, a stronghold associated with Hezbollah.
“We must make it clear: Every launch of a drone, UAV, or missile toward Israel from Lebanon will lead to an Israeli strike in Dahiya,” he wrote.
While expressing appreciation for the United States and President Trump, Ben-Gvir maintained that Israel must retain full independence in determining its security policy.
“We love the USA and are grateful to President Trump. And yet, the State of Israel is not a banana republic,” he said.
The remarks are likely to intensify concerns over the durability of the newly announced peace agreement, particularly as tensions remain high between Israel and Hezbollah following months of cross-border hostilities.
The agreement had already faced uncertainty after Israel reportedly carried out an air raid on Beirut’s southern suburbs shortly before the announcement, raising fears that renewed fighting could undermine diplomatic efforts.
Ben-Gvir's latest comments are expected to fuel debate within Israel and among international stakeholders over whether the Trump-brokered accord can survive opposition from influential figures within the Israeli government who continue to advocate a more confrontational military approach toward Iran and its regional allies.
Concluding his statement, Ben-Gvir invoked Jewish historical experiences and declared that Israel would not retreat in the face of its adversaries.
“The people of Israel is a people of 3,000 years, the eternal people that does not fear a long road,” he said.
“The days are over when the Jew took blows and kept silent. Never again.”
