The violent arrest and manhandling of human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, on Friday on the premises of the Kuje Magistrate court had been pre-planned between the Senior Magistrate and the police.

‎The police officers indicted in the assault are those who handled the case including the lead counsel, ACP Victor Godfrey, Musa Adama and CSP Ilyasu Barau of the State CID in Abuja.

‎SaharaReporters learnt that when Sowore was brought to court, several policemen had been deployed from Abuja town to Kuje community with armoured tanks as efforts were made by the police to frisk and harass people entering the court.

‎When the Magistrate, Abubakar Umar Sai’id

‎arrived, he also met and greeted the police personnel before driving in.

‎When he arrived in court, he immediately called the case and after seeing how the argument was going, he decided to grant bail, even though some of the conditions were awkward.

‎The police began to act aggressively even to the point of confiscating the phones of Sowore's associates and supporters.
‎
‎"The police then chased the Magistrate away after threatening him that the IGP was personally interested in Sowore staying in prison for as long as possible.
‎
‎"They forced the magistrate to write and sign a remand warrant and them drove him from the premises even when Sowore's lawyer, Deji Adeyanju and other protesters had completely finished getting the bail conditions," a top source revealed.

BREAKING NEWS: An enormous explosion has rocked Rivers State. The Niger Delta Avengers claim responsibility for blowing a major oil pipeline of Nigeria’s crude output.

According to reports from residents, the catastrophy which occurred in the early hours today - Thursday, sent flames into the sky and could be seen from afar.

In a statement allegedly released by the militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers said the attack was a warning strike to demand the immediate release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

“As long as Nnamdi Kanu remains in Abuja prison, we will continue to shut down Nigeria’s oil economy,” the statement read. “Every 24 hours he spends behind bars, five oil wells will go up in flames. The world must know that injustice against one freedom fighter is injustice against all.”

The Federal Government has yet to release an official statement on the incident, but military presence in the region has reportedly increased as fears of more attacks mount.
