I’m out on an East Coast college tour… and I’m sharing some tips for juniors as they head out on college tours of their own.
Here are three quick tips for juniors before they ever step on campus.

I spent last week at the North American Championships at Kicking Horse, BC.
North America’s top U15 & U19 Free Ride skiers and boarders went head-to-head with the culture of love for skiing, competition, and community.
Free Ride continually delivers and this year was no different.
Proud to have three student/athletes working with JMAC in the comp!
Currently there are 18 US College Free Ridge Clubs registered with IFSA and more are joining every year - Which is great news for students who want to keep Big Mountain in their lives. More are joining every year, too!
The single greatest factor for student success in college is a sense of belonging - and for many of my students, that starts in the mountain 🎿

This is the time of year when I help juniors begin building their college lists — and we start with self-reflection, not rankings.
Before looking at admit rates or prestige, students identify what they need to be successful and well in college: learning environment, support, campus culture, and opportunities for growth. From there, we look for colleges that offer those things — rather than asking students to reshape themselves to fit a school’s expectations.
A strong college list includes a range of admit rates and multiple schools where a student can truly thrive. We also prioritize colleges that show a genuine investment in students throughout the admission process and beyond.
College planning isn’t about chasing the “best” school — it’s about finding the right ones.

School is about to start for many. It's time for students to set goals and think about what they hope to get out of the year and what they hope to contribute.
Students often ask me what they should do to get into college. The answer is easy, and every college admission officer will tell you the same thing: take advantage of what your high school has to offer. Engage in your classes and communities. Try new things. Get interested, ask questions, join a club or sport. Engage, participate, lead, learn.
Colleges want to see that you took advantage of what your HS had to offer.
