Dear Mr Governor,

Ibadan Circular Road: A Passionate Appeal

I have sent this message in my capacity as the National President, Ibadan Descendants Union, USA. IDU, USA, who is the umbrella body for all Ibadan sons and daughters in North America.

We have been receiving barrages of 'Save Our Soul' messages from our people who are affected by the construction of the iconic Circular Road at home. The inundations of the appeal messages have been so overwhelming that we have no choice but to lend our appealing voice to the raging issue.

Your Excellency, only an enemy of development and progress, would downplay the immense impacts the Circular Road will bring not only to Oyo State but also to Nigeria. We at IDU, USA, give huge credit to you for your unwavering resolve to see the Circular Road to successful completion.

We are aware of the Oyo Government’s stand on the requirements of the corridor at both ends of the road. We are equally aware of the outcry from those affected by the demolitions taking place to pave the way for setbacks and corridors for the expressway. However, our concern at IDU, USA, is not about who is right or who is wrong between the Oyo Government and the affected citizens of the state. What we hold to be necessary is that Oyo State must develop, and we must do everything to support the government to achieve the development.

Your Excellency, while we recognise that the government has to do what is necessary to develop the state, we are making a passionate plea on behalf of the affected citizens of Oyo State to show mercy and leniency towards bringing succour to them over the demolitions going on at the Circular Road. We are not making any suggestion or recommendation as to how to relieve the affected people of their pains occassioned by the demolitions. As a responsible government, we believe you know what to do to lessen the burden of the demolitions on those affected.

Your Excellency, you are known to have been running a government with milk of human kindness. We equally appreciate your firmness in ensuring that the right thing has to be done to move Oyo State forward. On behalf of the entire members of IDU, USA, I appeal to you to use your usual wisdom to bring relief to our people affected in that axis.

I thank you for your sterling service to our State while I look forward to having a highly favourable response to this plea.
