π OPEN LETTER TO THE PRESIDENCY AND MEMBERS OF THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
Date: July 3, 2025
From: A Concerned Nigerian Citizen
To:
His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
The President of the Senate
The Speaker of the House of Representatives
All Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members of the National Assembly
Subject: An Urgent Call to Secure the Release of Leah Sharibu
Your Excellencies,
I write to you today not as a politician, not as a party loyalist, but as a concerned Nigerian, a voice among millions who have not forgotten Leah Sharibu β a daughter of this nation who has been left behind in captivity for over 7 years.
On February 19, 2018, 110 schoolgirls were kidnapped in Dapchi, Yobe State.
While 107 were returned and 2 reportedly died, one girl β Leah Sharibu β remains in captivity to this day, simply because she refused to renounce her Christian faith. Her strength and courage are an inspiration. But her continued captivity is a national failure.
This is no longer a party issue.
This is a matter of national conscience.
Successive administrations have made promises without delivery. We have heard statements like "negotiations are ongoing" or "we know she is alive" β yet her parents wait in tears, and the nation watches in silence.
As citizens, we now ask:
Why has no concrete operation or breakthrough been achieved to bring her home?
Do we lack the intelligence or the political will?
If our leaders cannot protect a single innocent girl, how can they protect the nation?
Our Demands:
1. Immediate prioritization of Leah Sharibu's rescue as a matter of national emergency.
2. A public update from the presidency and security chiefs on efforts made so far.
3. A special legislative hearing to probe all past efforts and determine accountability.
4. Recognition of Leah Sharibu as a symbol of national resistance and her inclusion in all national conversations on insecurity and education.
Let Us Act β Before It Is Too Late
Your Excellencies, the Nigerian people are watching. History is watching.
Do not let Leahβs name become a permanent scar of abandonment on the conscience of this nation.
Let it instead become a symbol of redemption β that when Nigerians demand justice, their leaders respond.
Free Leah Sharibu. Restore her family. Rebuild our hope.
Sincerely,
A Concerned Nigerian
