ON POINT: Manchester City defeated Chelsea 1-0 in today’s 2026 FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium.

The match was tight and tactical for most of the game, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances in the first half. Chelsea had a few penalty appeals, but none were given after VAR checks.

Manchester City gradually took control after halftime and finally broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute when Antoine Semenyo scored a brilliant backheel finish from an Erling Haaland assist.

Chelsea pushed for an equaliser late on, bringing on attacking substitutes like Liam Delap and Alejandro Garnacho, but City defended strongly. Rodri, Marc Guéhi, and goalkeeper James Trafford were key in protecting the lead.

The victory gave Manchester City their eighth FA Cup title and continued Pep Guardiola’s domestic success with the club.

Mr Elliot made the apology during an interview on TVC’s Your View, where he revealed that he was groomed politically under the guidance of Mr Gbajabiamila, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, whom he described as the man who taught him everything he knows about politics.

He said, “I’m not saying, oh, yes, media will come out, oh yes, Desmond begs again. Yes, because he’s my egbon. And I grew up learning everything I knew in politics through him.

“To err is human, to forgive is divine. So I’m sorry, my daddy, if I’ve offended you in any way. To the matriarch of Surulere, mama, I’m sorry if I’ve offended you.”

Reaffirming his commitment to strengthening the party, he also told residents of Surulere, “My scorecard is there. You know the things I’ve done to make Surulere a better place.”

The apology comes after Mr Gbajabiamila disclosed on Thursday that he almost lost his position as Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu due to Mr Elliot’s involvement in the 2025 impeachment of Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.
