THE KIDNAPPERS OF HOPE.
In the eve to the morning show, the eligible youths, the elderly mothers and fathers were in a wake to rewrite the history, to change the narrative of Emilokan (it is my turn). It's indeed a determined wake which seems to be a revolution where the masses resolved to say it's our turn. Our turn to take back our country, our turn where the profit of the land will be for all, our turn to build our economy on the rock of production and not consumption. The masses were hopeful, the masses were obedient. It seems like a jingle, rejuvenation of hope to a resolute people.
Indeed the c**k has crow but it wasn't a sign of denial, it was a call for a new hope.
We left our homes to the poling units to make our votes count, to keep our promise, to build a new structure and to destroy the criminal structure. We waited patiently and hopefully, the officers arrived for the exercise nonchalantly, without sense of urgency. Of course they will be paid for being nonchalant, for arriving late.
We queued without reneging, the process was blunt, the BVAS was acting like it's commission yet we were patient, we were hopeful. The machine is working, what a good news. We got accredited, we voted OBIDIENTLY. The tide aroused, we stood firm, the rain failed, we termed it showers of blessing, we pleaded for more. The thugs came, they caused mayhem, Favour got stabbed on the face, yet she voted with a bandaged blood-dripping face, she only want to cast her hope in the ballot box.
We collated our results in our different units with a unique song. LUP 77, LLUUPP 78, OBI 79, KERERENKE 80, OBI 81, OBI NWANNEM 82.
We counted our hope, we were happy that our hope will count. The kidnappers of hope began to cook their plans, the presidential results cannot be uploaded. Our hope cannot be transmitted, we were unhappy but believed INEC.
We left home posting our unit results on social media. The social media was our own collation centre. All the social media collated results was LLUUPP.
On the way to the national collation centre, our hope was kidnapped, our civil right was stolen by a ranchorous elite with a suckling filament in Abuja.
The question is, who will pay for her ransom. Will it still remain in the den of thieves like LEAH SHARIBU?
The Dot Nation.
The dot in a circle is the pivot or fulcrum where the compass revolves. Without a dot, a circle cannot be formed. No matter how large a circle is, its angle can only be equal to the angle at the dot(360°). The dot in a circle remains the reference point where moment is taken to form the sector of a circle.
Let's relate the dot to a cell of a living thing.
The dot in a cell is the nucleus where life exist. The nucleus is the epicenter of life where the issues of life abound.
Let's take the dot down to nationhood. The dot is the center of excellence where all the socioeconomic activities of a nation revolve. Remove the dot from a circle the circumference cannot be formed. Remove the dot from a cell, life will not exist. Remove the dot from a nation the economy will melt down and decay.
When Mr President referred to the people in the South East as a dot in a circle he didn't make any mistake, he was only been truthful.
The Igbo's are really a dot in a circle of Nigeria, they are what I call the auto-run. They don't need an assistant to survive, all they need is an inspiration. When I go through the lane of history only studying the Igbo's and their business acumen even after the civil war mayhem, the dot still didn't die. The after math of the civil war was really something to aplaud the Igbos. After the civil war nothing was left, no resources but the dot survived with just Fifty Naira. An average Igbo man doesn't pray for war because we believe in an adage that says "oji oso agbakwuru ogu amaghi na ogu bu onwu" meaning he who rush into war doesn't no that war is death. Looking at the way forward let people opinion count, a nation where people opinions are suppressed will always live in anomie. Let the ethnic tailors of unity reject been purchased by the highest thereby puncturing the fluid that absorbs the shock of tribalism.
The Dot Man.
The untold truth about education and the Europeanized curriculum in Nigeria.
What is literacy?
What is education?
Literacy is the ability to read and write. The confusing part of this definition is the ability to read and write WHAT. Does it mean that a literate man in English is an illiterate in French? What about those who can read but can't write and those who can write but can't read, are they literate or illiterate?
Education on the other hand is a process of acquiring knowledge which can be applied as useful tool in our society for solving an evolving problems of mankind. Education can be formal, none formal, informal and traditional. Formal education is knowledge acquired from a conventional institutions, none formal education is knowledge acquired from none conventional settings like adult education, informal education is the knowledge acquired from the family, traditional education is the knowledge acquired from our culture and tradition eg wrestling and traditional dance.
Before the arrival of missionaries, Nigeria as a nation was educated informally ( apprenticeship "igba odibo" ) and traditionally with few literate fellows. The missionaries (the Roman Catholic and Christian Missionary Society CMS) were the vanguard of teachings of Christ at the same time formal education but without curriculum. They built schools but their teachings were more of moral standards, ethical behaviour and positive attitude. Most of the graduates at that time were enrolled into the class room or become catechist of the mission. Until the arrival of the European who hijacked the formal education system from the missionaries.
The European brought their curriculum to be adopted hook and sinker into our formal education system. They did that to give Nigerian formal education system a direction, the European didn't understand one thing, Nigeria as an African nation, what problem does formal education in Nigeria really wants to solve, is it technology, ICT, Health, transportation, politics, agriculture. The European didn't answer the above question. Our national formal education curriculum is a photocopy of that of our colonial masters. Africa can't be Europe, Nigeria can't be Britain, our education need is very different, that's where Nigeria lost the bearing. In the class room we learn so many irrelevant things , things that's not material to our development. We learn about rat, rabbit, lizard and all that without purpose, just because its in our curriculum. That's what shows that Nigeria as country has no formal education philosophy.
Education is broader than literacy, all educated people are literate but not all literate people are educated. So why graduates are in a rat race is simply we are literate but not educated, and the society at large is deficiency of solutions to their problems. Until we are able to impact and solve societal problems through acquired knowledge literacy will forever remain useless
