Making yogurt at home is a simple and rewarding process. Here is a basic recipe for making homemade yogurt:
Ingredients:
1. 4 cups milk (whole or 2%)
2. 1/4 cup plain yogurt (with live and active cultures)
Instructions:
1. Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring frequently, until it reaches a temperature of 180°F (82°C).
2. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool to 110°F (43°C).
3. In a small bowl, whisk together the plain yogurt and a small amount of the warm milk until it is smooth.
4. Pour the yogurt mixture back into the saucepan and stir until it is fully combined with the milk.
5. Transfer the mixture to a glass jar or container with a tight-fitting lid.
6. Wrap the container with a clean towel and place it in a warm, draft-free location (such as an oven with the light turned on) for 6-8 hours, or until the yogurt thickens and sets.
7. Once the yogurt has set, refrigerate it for at least 2 hours before serving.
