Happy International Women's Day 2026
Girls’ Power Initiative (GPI) Calabar commemorated International Women’s Day 2026 with an interactive open session for its center girls. The event, themed “Give to Gain,” provided a platform for learning, reflection, and inspiration, encouraging the girls to recognize the value of contributing positively to society while pursuing their personal goals.
The session began with a welcome address by the GPI Calabar Center Coordinator, Comfort Ikpeme, who welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of International Women’s Day as a moment to celebrate the achievements of women and inspire young girls to aspire for excellence in all areas of life.
One key highlights of the event was a career display and discussion session, where different professions and career paths were showcased. This activity helped broaden the girls’ understanding of the many opportunities available to them and encouraged them to begin thinking intentionally about their future aspirations.
an inspirational group song was also delivered followed by a presentation on the theme “Give to Gain” by Emilia Eyo, a one-time GPI Girl (GAA) who enlightened the girls on the significance of International Women’s Day and the importance of recognizing the progress made in advancing women’s rights. She encouraged the participants to develop clear plans for the next five to ten years and guided them on practical ways to achieve their dreams
The event served as an inspiring and educational session for the girls, strengthening their confidence and motivating them to take intentional steps toward achieving their goals while contributing positively to their communities.
Today, we join the world to celebrate young women and girls in STEM! With the theme 'From Vision to Impact: Redefining STEM', were also shining a spotlight on some amazing young girls in GPI Safe Space Program who are breaking barriers and venturing into science and tech. To young girls in STEM, We see you and we identify with your vision and endeavors.
Here's to redefining what's possible and shaping a more inclusive tomorrow. We wish you all the best.

“Towards 2030: No End to FGM Without Sustained Commitment and Investment.”
Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM) continues to be a widespread issue in Nigeria and the world at large with thousands of women and girls affected and living with its consequences. Although progress has been made through advocacy and community engagement to eliminate the practice, challenges persist due to shrinking resources and pushback against gender equality.
There's therefore an urgent need for collective action to . Governments, communities, organizations, and partners must come together to mobilize resources, strengthen partnerships, and intensify efforts to ensure every girl and woman lives free from violence and harmful practices.
