The association nominates eleven (11) members of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria which regulates the practice of medicine and dentistry in Nigeria and the curricula of its’ medical schools. Nigerian Medical Association Cross River State consists of over 600 registered Medical and Dental practitioners across the 18 Local Government Areas of the State. Over eighty percent of doctors practice in the capital city, Calabar, with just about 24% of the population of the state. Policy decisions are made by the State Executive Council with the constitution of the Nigerian Medical Association being supreme and it’s provisions having binding force on all authorities, organs, branches and members of the association and, where applicable on any other persons. The Nigerian Medical Association Cross River State is involved in influencing policy formulations in the in an ad-hoc manner. This is done by making recommendations to government on various health issues in the state and nationally. The association holds training courses for doctors and participates in publications, radio programmes and television talk shows.
