Topic: HOW TO RETREAT

In the Christendom, we have
1. Personal retreat. Mark 1:35
This type involves you alone in a particular location.

2. Corporate Retreat. Mark 14:32-33, Acts 1:12-14
Retreat done with family members, friends, fellowships, church, etc

Retreat can be specifically instructed by God(Acts 1:4) or Self motivated(Habbakuk 2:1).

One of the requirements for retreat is the heart to be alone with God and drawing nigh to God whether personal or corporate (James 4:8)

When on a retreat, it is advisable to put away anything that will pose as a source of distraction example phone etc

As a brother or sister PLEASE DON'T retreat privately with a member of the opposite s*x cos Satan may profit more from your retreat than Jesus.

You should not miss your classes, tests or exams for retreat be it personal or corporate. Eccl. 3:1

Please note that retreating is different from your daily Bible reading and prayers.

Sometimes you can retreat for hours, a day or days, shut yourself in and pray, study the Bible, sing etc

The state of your heart is critical while retreating and also the timing.

Prayer points.
1. 1st prayer is a prayer of heart purification. For you to remain in the presence of God as you retreat there are heart preparations that you need which is stated in Psalms 51

2. Please Lord cut off every distraction in the soul. Let me long to stay in your presence till I find you. Psalms 80:18

Retreat is a Latin word.... which means "draw back"
It's usually a word used in the military.

Probably, there has been a fight or a pursuit....but there came a need for them to stop the fight or pursuit.....the command would be to retreat

So, retreat is a kind of necessity for a life that would be renewed

Retreat is not just about coming to pray(as many think)...it involves 'everything' needed to bring about NEWNESS
It is a place of WAITING.....and the secret of renewing strength is waiting.

Why retreat?
1. For reflection
Many a time, as Christians, we need retreat to think over our lives and works.

2. Growth/Renewal(spiritual):
It's in the place of retreat that one gets resources for growth.

3. we retreat for speed

4. We retreat for rest

When to retreat:
1. When you're tired and overwhelmed
2. When you lost your way
3. When you have a major transition in life
4. When you're stuck in a rut

It is our prayer that as you put your trust in the Lord, you find rest this month, rest from turmoils, rest from worries, rest from struggles, rest from all of the burdens that ladens us. Amen 🙇🙇
