ZAAR (SAYAWA) ETHNIC NATIONALITY HOSTS 2026 WAKTARI FESTIVAL IN GRAND STYLE

The Zaar (Sayawa) Ethnic Nationality has successfully hosted the 2026 WAKTARI Annual Cultural Festival in a colourful and well-attended ceremony that showcased the rich cultural heritage, unity, and traditions of the Zaar people.

The event attracted participants from across Nigeria and the diaspora, including traditional rulers, community leaders, dignitaries, and cultural enthusiasts who gathered to celebrate one of the most important festivals in Zaar land.

WAKTARI is a revered cultural festival of the Zaar people. It is traditionally observed as a time of prayer, thanksgiving, and preparation for the farming season, reflecting the agrarian lifestyle and strong spiritual values of the people.

In his address, His Royal Majesty, Gung Marcus Kokko Yake, the Gung Zaar of Zaar Chiefdom, represented by the District Head of Bogoro, Mr. Nuhu Tafida, commended the Zaar people for their unity, resilience, and commitment to preserving our cultural identity. He noted that WAKTARI remains a sacred heritage of our people and a time for reflection, prayers, and renewed commitment to shared values and collective progress.

He further called on the youth to take pride in their identity and uphold the traditions passed down by their forefathers, emphasizing that the culture of the Zaar people remains their strength and must be preserved for future generations.

Speaking on behalf of the organizing committee, Mr. Adamu Bagudu Mwari expressed appreciation for the large turnout and the peaceful conduct of participants, describing the event as a great success. He noted that the success of the festival reflects the unity and determination of the Zaar people to preserve and promote our cultural heritage.

The festival featured cultural displays, traditional music, dances, and other activities that highlighted the uniqueness and pride of the Zaar (Sayawa) people.

The 2026 WAKTARI Festival stands as a testament to the unity and cultural strength of the Zaar people and their continued commitment to preserving their traditions and promoting community development.
