Hmm we need to be speaking out seriously
LET'S WASH OUR DIRTY LINEN OUTSIDE
WHEN A PEOPLE REMAIN SILENT, INJUSTICE BECOMES A SYSTEM
Sunday Jackson from Adamawa State was sentenced to death after killing a herder who attacked him on his own farm.
His case attracted both national and international attention because he maintained that he acted in self-defence after being stabbed during the confrontation. However, despite his arguments, the lower courts and eventually the Supreme Court ruled that he should have fled after disarming his attacker instead of using the weapon against him.
But the people of Adamawa State did not remain silent. Young and old, at home and in the diaspora, they raised their voices and ensured that the world knew that such an injustice could not be allowed to stand. Through sustained advocacy, public pressure, and interventions from various quarters, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri eventually exercised his constitutional prerogative of mercy and granted Sunday Jackson a state pardon during the Christmas and New Year clemency period.
Today, I ask: Where is that same collective voice for Victor Solomon, popularly known as Zidane?
Victor Solomon, an indigene and son of Southern Kaduna, is on death row because he stood up to defend his people, his community, and his ancestral land from terrorists and violent invaders who have repeatedly attacked, displaced, and killed our people.
What exactly is his crime? Is it defending his people when security agencies failed to do so? Is it protecting lives and communities when the government failed in its primary responsibility?
This is bigger than one man.
If Victor Solomon dies in this situation, then every young person in Southern Kaduna has effectively been placed on death row. For years, many of our youths and elders have been arrested, imprisoned, and subjected to injustice under circumstances that raise serious questions. It is beginning to look like a systematic attempt to silence an entire people.
And unless we resist through lawful advocacy and collective action, this pattern will continue.
I am calling on every influential voice and stakeholder from Southern Kaduna to rise to this moment. Bishop Emmanuel Kure, Bishop Matthew Kukah, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, General Martin Luther Agwai (Rtd), Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, Hon. Felix Joseph Bagudu, and every other Southern Kaduna leader and stakeholder — your silence on matters as critical as this is deeply concerning.
History will remember not only those who perpetrated injustice, but also those who remained silent when they had the platform and influence to speak.
If we do not raise our voices now, a time may come when our voices will no longer matter because we chose silence when action was required.
The defence of a people should never become a death sentence. Silence is no longer an option..
