TOPIC: AVOID SLEEPING WHILE PRAYING

SCRIPTURE: And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour? *MATTHEW 26:40.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Sleeping while praying is a sign of unseriousness. Such prayer does not command answers from God.

Unserious attitude to prayer is a major reason for unanswered prayers. Many people do not command God’s attention in prayer because they are not serious with God at the place of prayer.

Some people engage in all kinds of unserious and frivolous activities while praying to God. Some can be chewing gum while praying, and God is watching them. There are those who even sleep while praying. Sleeping while praying is a sign of unseriousness. Such prayer does not command answers from God.

The question is: Have you ever slept in front of an examiner while answering oral questions? Have you ever slept in front of an interviewer? That means you already failed the interview by sleeping.
So, do you expect God to answer your prayer when you fall asleep while praying?

However, when you pray with seriousness, both you, God, and the devil will acknowledge your prayer.

I remember while in university, we used to pray until our anterior abdominal walls were aching. We felt the pain because we would pray in tongues for hours. We were laying hold on the horns of the altar, and we meant business with God. Even God Himself knew we meant business, likewise the devil and his agents.

Beloved, my counsel is, maintain undivided focus, and avoid sleeping while praying.

Remember this: Sleeping while praying is a sign of unseriousness. Such prayer does not command answers from God.

ASSIGNMENT:
1. Avoid the temptation of sleeping while praying.

2. Stand up and walk around, if necessary, to stay awake and alert while praying.

PRAYER: Father, I cast from my eyes every spell of sleepiness and distraction during prayer. I receive grace for physical wakefulness, mental focus and spiritual alertness while praying, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
