Different Fluids our Car Needs

If you aren't aware of the importance of fluid maintenance, then you might want to start learning. Similar to the water we consume, your vehicle needs various fluids to stay active and driving. If these six fluids aren't regularly inspected and topped off, your automobile will be at risk of lower performance, gas mileage, and value, as well as a higher risk of a breakdown or collision.

1. Engine Oil:

Engine oil, also referred to as motor oil, is the most vital fluid of all. As you may know, its primary job is to lubricate and protect your engine's components from overheating. As a responsible vehicle owner, you should know which type of oil your vehicle takes. You can find the oil specifications for your car in the owner's manual if you are unsure.

2. Transmission Fluid:

Similar to engine oil, transmission fluid serves to lubricate your transmission. This fluid is usually a red color. If you notice that the fluid status is low or contaminated, you should have it changed or flushed immediately.

3. Brake Fluid:

Without this essential solution, your vehicle would not be able to slow down or come to a complete stop. If you start to notice a brake delay or unusual feeling with your brakes, you should first check your brake fluid levels.

4. Coolant:

Engine coolant aids in cooling down your engine by absorbing excess heat and taking toxic byproducts out of the exhaust system. Without coolant, your engine would simply overheat.

5. Windshield Wiper Fluid:

Windscreen washer fluid is employed to clean the windshield of your car. It is often overlooked, but it is crucial for safe driving. Without this liquid, you could experience trouble seeing through your dirty windscreen.

6. Differential Fluid:

Differential fluid reduces friction and heat in the differential, which helps the wheels rotate at different speeds when turning or driving over rough terrain. Without differential fluid, the gears would generate too much heat, which could damage or fail the differential system.

You see, one thing you need to understand when it comes to automobile troubleshooting and subsequent repair works is that it isn’t straightforward.

Gone are the days when it was just loose, replace and fix and tadaaa, problem solved, even that it wasn’t easy since not everyone could do it.

Troubleshooting vehicle problems especially electrical/electronics, require more thinking and education and it’s sometimes have a lot to do with your understanding of English to interpret the the codes the diagnostic device gives you.

The diagnostic device will rarely give you the solution to the problem you encounter, else most people who have devices can solve their own problems.

Troubleshooting is the main job, that is when you have to find what is causing the problem, and how to resolve it. Most vehicles we have now are simply bigger computers with input devices, output devices and the brains or modules that control the input and give out something. It could be wires, the modules/ecu and other components.

Now imagine finding a fault through looking for a particular wire, junction connector, a control board, etc. it’s not an easy, we just understand it and make it look easy.

Following are the common types of car headlights:

1. Halogen Lights

The most popular type of lights on highways these days are halogen lights. They use a combination of gases commonly nitrogen and argon, and tungsten filament in a glass tube.

2. HID Lights

Another type of car light that can be used for different lights on a car is the HID light bulb. These HID lights are unique because they don’t have a filament as most light bulbs give.

3. LED Lights

These lights are a very energy-efficient kind of headlight that is starting to show up in headlights. These headlights are versatile and bulbs can be made in many different sizes.

4. Laser

The most innovative headlight technology currently on the market is laser lighting. For this reason, not only are they the greatest in their class but also the priciest. Laser lights use lasers to ignite a gas. The gas burns incredibly bright as a result.

5. Carbide

Carbide headlights were headlights for bicycles and motor cars that used carbide lamps to produce light.

6. Electric Lights

Electric headlights, or car headlamps, are lamps that are attached to the front of a vehicle to help drivers see the road at night or in low light condition.
