What does Eco Verm feed their worms? πͺ±
Ever wondered what goes on in a wormβs daily diet? π€ We visited Eco Verm Tawau to discover how vermicomposting works and what keeps these tiny recyclers healthy! π±
Their worm menu includes:
π₯¬ Organic materials (vegetables etc.)
π Cow manure
π Goat manure
A balanced diet is only a part of its necessities. Healthy worms also need an environment the right moisture and temperature. Too hot, too wet, or too dry, and the worms wonβt thrive. βΌοΈ
These hardworking worms transform organic waste into nutrient-rich vermicompost, helping reduce waste while creating healthier soil. β»οΈ
A huge thank you to Eco Verm Tawau for sharing their knowledge and giving us an unforgettable learning experience! π

On the 13th June 2026, our team members from the BioLoop Carbon Innovators had an education visit to Eco Verm Tawau to learn about sustainable organic waste management. π±
During the visit, we discovered how worms naturally decompose organic waste such as vegetables, cow manure, and goat manure into nutrient-rich vermicompost. πͺ±
We also learned the importance of:
1οΈβ£ Waste Separation to ensure efficient composting. β»οΈ
2οΈβ£ Moisture Control to create the ideal environment for worms. π§
3οΈβ£ Eco-Friendly Systems, including the recycling of rainwater and animal waste to support sustainable farming. πΏ
This visit inspired us with new ideas on reducing organic waste sustainably and showed us how simple, nature-based solutions can help build a greener future. π
A big thank you to Eco Verm Tawau for sharing your knowledge and experience with us! π

On the 13th of July 2026, our team members from BioLoop Carbon Innovators visited EcoVerm Tawau. πͺ±
EcoVerm Tawau is a farm in Tawau that specializes in vermicomposting techniques, which is the use of earthworms to break down organic food scraps and turning them into nutrient-rich organic fertilizer. π±
Under the guidance of the EcoVerm team, we were able to gain a ton of new and interesting knowledge about the fundamentals of vermicomposting techniques. Not only that, they shared their knowledge on food recycling, demonstrated livestock manure reutilization methods, explained sustainable composting processes and so much more! π
We sincerely thank EcoVerm Tawau for granting us this opportunity to increase our knowledge in the field of composting. We truly believe this experience will assist us in our project for Toyota Eco Youth! π

In our previous post, we talked about items for composting. Now, letβs learn how to compost effectively! π
First, prepare a suitable compost bin such as a bucket or bin. Make small air holes to speed up decomposition and place it in a shaded area. π
Next, add ONLY organic waste. Avoid plastic and oil, and use materials such as fruit and vegetable scraps for better composting. β»οΈ
Then, take good care of your compost by keeping it slightly moist, not overly wet, and stirring it regularly to maintain healthy decomposition. π³
Here comes the easy part, now we nust wait. Compost usually takes a few weeks to form, and you are rewarded with a dark brown, earthy-smelling compost. π
Compost can be used for gardening to improve soil quality and promote healthy plant growth. It also helps reduce household waste. π₯
We hope this post has given you a clear understanding of the fundamentals of composting. Happy composting! π

"Don't throw it away, COMPOST IT!" β»οΈ
As stated in our last post, composting is a natural process that recycles organic materials into nutrient-rich soil amendments. But what exactly can we compost? π
Items suitable for composting include fruit peels, eggshells, coffee grounds, and even paper egg cartons. π©π»βπΎ
However, plastic, metal, meat, glass, dairy products, and similar materials are not suitable for composting as they decompose slowly, produce foul smells, and may contain harmful substances and germs. π«
Composting materials can be divided into brown waste and green waste. Brown waste includes dry leaves and cardboard, while green waste includes vegetable scraps and fruit peels. π±
It is important to maintain a balance between brown and green waste. Too much green waste can make compost too wet and smelly, while too much brown waste can make it too dry and cause slow decomposition. π³
Understanding what can and cannot be composted helps ensure a smooth and effective composting process! π

On the 22nd May 2026, the BioLoop Carbon Innovators had an interview with Chong Wei Bo (Grade 11 student) and Destine Tan (Grade 11 student) from the St.Patrick Secondary School Composting Team. πͺ΄
They've been dedicated to this project for 2 whole years now under the guidance of Teacher Lu Li Wah.
During the interview, they shared how our school compost team works:
Every morning, the Grade 9 and Grade 10 students will head out to our school canteen to collect eggshells, wash them at the Nursery Garden before crushing them into smaller pieces, and put them into the containers. β»οΈ
