Before the sold out arenas, before the ACM Entertainer of the Year win, and before “The Fall” hit No. 1 on country radio, Cody Johnson was just a hardworking Texas kid chasing a dream the old fashioned way. Born on May 21, 1987, in Sebastopol, Texas, CoJo built his career from the ground up with rodeos, self recorded CDs, and nights spent playing anywhere people would listen.

That’s what makes his story hit different for longtime country fans. He never changed who he was to fit Nashville. He stayed loyal to the kind of country music built on truth, heartbreak, faith, hard work, and real life. You can hear the George Strait, Merle Haggard, and Chris LeDoux influence in every song, but Cody still found his own voice along the way.

A lot of folks don’t realize he once worked as a prison guard just like his father, and he even rode bulls before music fully took over his life. He paid his dues for years selling CDs from the back of his truck and grinding through small shows until fans slowly turned him into one of the biggest names in country music. Truth is, people connected with him because he never sounded fake.

Now here he is years later with chart topping albums, massive stadium crowds, and one of the biggest honors in country music after winning ACM Entertainer of the Year in 2026. And somehow, through all the success, he still feels like the same humble cowboy from Texas who just wanted to sing songs that meant something.
