The Malaysia - Maldives Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) entered into force on 22 January 2026, with its provisions taking effect from 1 January 2027.

The agreement marks a significant milestone in strengthening economic ties between Malaysia and the Maldives. It enhances tax certainty, reduces the risk of double taxation, and supports the expansion of cross-border trade, investment, and business activities between the two jurisdictions. Businesses and investors with interests in either jurisdiction are encouraged to assess the potential impact of the treaty on their existing and future structures, transactions, and overall tax positions.
