🏏 Weekend Cricket Wrap-Up

Marsa Sports Club enjoyed a fantastic weekend of cricket at the Marsa International Cricket Ground, as Marsa Sundreams XI welcomed BigWest CC for two highly competitive matches.

The weekend started strongly for Marsa Sundreams XI with an impressive 7-wicket victory. BigWest CC batted first and posted 212/6 from their 30 overs, but Marsa replied in excellent fashion, reaching 216/3 in just 24.3 overs.

Parth Patel led the chase with a superb 63 from 36 balls, supported by Abhishek with a steady 40. Shanly Karoli Unnikrishnan then finished the match in style with an unbeaten 39 from just 15 balls. With the ball, Chamkaur Singh produced a disciplined spell, taking 2/27.

The second match proved to be a real thriller. Marsa Sundreams XI batted first and put up a strong total of 231/6 from 30 overs, with Savio Thomas top-scoring with 51. Heinrich Sebastian Gericke added a quick 35 from 19 balls, while Umair and Partha Sarathi Palpandi also made valuable contributions.

BigWest CC responded well and, despite Marsa pushing the match close, managed to reach 233/5 in 29 overs to win by 5 wickets in a hard-fought contest.

The standings are tight going into the final round today, with everything still to play for on court.

After four rounds, Team Y leads the table on 35 points, followed closely by Team O on 32 points and Team N on 30 points. Team X remains in contention on 28 points, while Team E sits on 19 points.

Current standings:

2. Team O — 32 points
3. Team N — 30 points
4. Team X — 28 points
5. Team E — 19 points

The final round will decide the overall standings, with both Men’s and Ladies’ results combining into one team table.

Following the final round, members can also enjoy the Yonex BBQ Team Tournament Presentation Night at Kulu, with food served from 8:30pm to 11:00pm. The BBQ buffet is €20 and includes burgers, chicken thighs, sausages, assorted salads and potatoes, fruit tart and coffee.

Prizes will be awarded to the winners and runners-up.
