Planned Power Interruptions Tonight - Continued G7 Repair
MEC wants to inform the public that we will need to carry out further repairs on Generator 7 (G7) tonight, which will require power shedding in some areas during the early morning hours.
After running G7 for several hours yesterday evening, our team noticed another water leak coming from the same cylinder head that was repaired earlier in the day. To fix this properly, we will need to shut G7 down again tonight from 2:00 AM to 6:00 AM so our mechanics can carry out more work on the cylinder.
During the above time, we will need to turn off power in some areas. We will start with Feeder 4 (MIMRA HQ, MIFV, Tobolar, and similar), followed by facilities that have their own backup generators. We expect this will be enough to manage demand during the early morning hours. If we need to turn off more areas, we will do so in this order: first Jitni to Laura, then the Airport VCB, and then the Kessai VCB. Please note that Laura Village should not be affected, as it has its own backup generator installed.
On a positive note, the planned overhaul of G6 has been delayed, so rather than wait, MEC has decided to bring the generator back online using parts that were brought in for the overhaul. Our mechanics expect to have G6 running again by next week. Once it is back in service, we will have stronger backup power, which should help us avoid interruptions like this one.
In addition, on Ebeye, KAJUR has completed repairs to their generator and have been running on full power since 10:30 PM last night.
MEC sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience these interruptions may cause, and we thank our customers for your continued patience and understanding. We especially thank our power plant mechanics for their commitment and hard work. We will share another update tomorrow morning once tonight's repairs on G7 are complete.
For questions or concerns, please contact MEC Customer Service at 625-3828 or 456-3828.
Kommol tata for your understanding and cooperation.

Generator 7 Repairs Complete — Power Restored
MEC is pleased to share that repairs on G7 were completed at around 3:30 PM today. The work took a little longer than we first estimated, but G7 is now back in service.
Power has been restored to all areas that were affected by the overnight load shedding, with the exception of a small number of facilities that have been running on their own backup generators. These will be switched back to MEC power shortly.
We sincerely thank our customers for your patience and understanding throughout this outage. We also want to recognize our power plant mechanics, whose hard work and long hours made this repair possible.
We will continue to keep the public informed on the situation on Ebeye, where KAJUR is working to resolve their own generator issue.
For questions or concerns, please contact MEC Customer Service at 625-3828 or 456-3828.

IMPORTANT PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

Update on Generator Repairs and Current Power Situation
MEC would like to provide an important update regarding ongoing generator repairs and the current power situation on Majuro.
As announced yesterday, urgent repairs were scheduled overnight on Generator 7 (G7) after our mechanics discovered significant water leaks. Because Generator 6 (G6) remains out of service for its planned overhaul, MEC has been relying entirely on Aggreko rental generators to supply power across the island during these repairs.
Due to limited available generation capacity overnight, MEC was required to temporarily shed load in several areas beginning at midnight in order to maintain stability of the overall power system. The following areas were affected:
1. MIHS through to Anil
2. The Uliga backroad from CMI to Payless
3. Feeder 4
4. Selected facilities with backup generators were also asked to switch to their own units temporarily
These areas remain without power as of this update.
MEC is pleased to report that repairs to the water leaks on G7 have now been completed. However, during the repair process, our mechanics identified an additional issue involving a cylinder head that must be replaced before the generator can safely return to service.
Our crews are actively working on this repair and currently expect G7 to be restored by approximately noon today. Once the generator is back online, MEC will move quickly to restore power to all affected areas.
Customers are advised that if electricity demand continues to exceed available generation capacity before G7 is restored, additional temporary outages may become necessary in other parts of the island. These measures will only be implemented if absolutely necessary to protect the stability of the power system.
MEC also wishes to share an update regarding Ebeye. KAJUR reported a high-temperature issue yesterday evening affecting one of their generators, which has reduced available generation capacity on Ebeye. As a result, KAJUR has been carrying out temporary power rationing and expects to continue doing so until repairs are completed. At this time, an estimated restoration schedule has not yet been confirmed.
MEC and KAJUR sincerely apologize for the inconvenience these interruptions have caused and thank our customers for their patience and understanding during this challenging situation.
We also wish to recognize and thank our power plant mechanics and operations crews on both Majuro and Ebeye, who have been working throughout the night to safely restore generation capacity as quickly as possible.
Additional updates will be shared as repairs progress and more information becomes available.
For questions or concerns, please contact MEC Customer Service at 625-3828 or 456-3828.
Kommol tata for your understanding and cooperation.

Update on Current Power Outage
Majuro, Marshall Islands – We want to provide an update on the ongoing power restoration efforts.
Aggreko technicians are still working on the switchgear and transformer for their units. We attempted a restoration earlier, but it was not successful. At the same time, our mechanics are working to bring Generator 6 back online, which we hope to achieve by this evening. Once Generator 6 is operating, we will be able to power the entire island.
In the meantime, we will be rotating power across the network. At 3:15 PM today, we will turn off Feeder 2 and turn on Feeder 1 out to Laura.
We thank our customers for their patience as our teams continue working to restore full service. We will share another update as soon as there is more news.

We want to update the public on the power outage that began at 4:00 PM yesterday.
With G7 (one of our largest generators), we have been able to restore power to all of Feeder 3 (hospital), as well as parts of Feeder 1 up to Kessai and Feeder 2 up to Momotaro. G6 (the other largest generator) is currently out of service. Our Aggreko rental generators are all working well, but we have run into an issue with the switchgear.
Yesterday's heavy rain allowed moisture to get into the switchgear, which is affecting its operation. Today, our technicians will be using heaters to dry out the unit, and we hope this will resolve the problem and allow us to restore full power across the network.
We thank our customers for their patience and understanding as we work through this challenge. We will continue to provide updates as the situation develops.
