In honor of World Environment Day, the Liberia Ocean Governance Seminar Cohort 1 visited the Liberian Coast Guard to provide participants with insights into the practical aspects of ocean governance. The field trip served as an extension of the Liberian Ocean Governance Seminar, complementing lectures, group exercises, and the seminar itself. The trip offerred a remarkable opportunity for participants to engage with the Liberian Coast Guard and to grasp the significance of maritime security in Liberia.

During a visit to the Liberian Coast Guard(LCG) facility, a thorough overview was provided regarding the strategies implemented to address threats including IUU fishing, armed robbery at sea, vessel-sourced pollution, and other related maritime crimes. The Commander of the LCG , Col. Holman seized the opportunity to convey his enthusiasm regarding the participants' interest in the work of the LCG and praised the conveners for embarking on such a remarkable initiative.

Additionally, participants also toured the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority to evaluate the authority's efforts in sustainably managing Liberia's aquatic resources. After these captivating activities, participants took it upon themselves to conduct a thorough cleanup of the nearest coast guard facility. This was a recognition of the LCG's service and also a chance to showcase the skills they have developed over the last three days.
