Diving Escapades
Hello everyone! For those of you thinking of diving in the PhilippinesâŠ
This was 2 weeks ago in Malapascua Island â and Iâm not even kidding, I saw the thresher sharks almost immediately as we were descending. Like⊠straight away. I love dives like that đ
For the past 4 years, Iâve been going back to the Philippines every year to dive, and I know planning a trip there can feel a bit overwhelming at first.
I put together a simple quiz to help you figure out where to go and how to plan your route (based on your time, budget, and what you want to see) â basically the stuff I wish I had when I started.
If youâre planning a trip and feel a bit stuck, happy to share it:

Most cruise passengers donât realize this kind of dive day is actually possible from the port.
During my Roatan cruise stop, I skipped the usual beach plan and went scuba diving instead.
Best decision of the whole port day.
Instead of booking the ship excursion, I independently booked a 2-tank dive in Roatan with and had a driver waiting outside the port gate.
Thirty minutes later I was in West End.
That same morning I was underwater on the Roatan side of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef â the second-largest reef system in the world.
Most people assume you donât have enough time to dive during a cruise stop, but with the right logistics it actually works really well.
So I mapped out exactly how I organized mine.
If youâre stopping in Roatan on a cruise and wondering if sustainable diving is doable, you can download my free Roatan Diving Guide for Cruise Travelers at the link in bio or at divingescapades.com/free-guides â it walks you through the logistics step by step so you can plan it easily.

Stopping in Belize on a cruise? Hereâs what you should know before stepping off the ship.
Belize is a tender port, which simply means your ship doesnât « park » right next to land.
Instead, you stay anchored offshore and take a smaller boat (called a tender) to get to the port.
Itâs easy â just a bit slower than walking straight off the ship.
And btw, the water near the port can look brown at first.
Totally normal. If youâre thinking, âWait⊠is this really it?â â donât worry đ
You havenât reached the reefs yet.
Once you leave the port and head offshore, thatâs where the turquoise water, the Belize Barrier Reef, Shark Ray Alley, and stops like Caye Caulker come in â and thatâs what makes a port day in Belize absolutely worth it.
I also created a 1-Day Belize Itinerary for Cruise Travelers to help you plan your port stop â grab it free at the link in bio.
