BMW 520d F10 N47 FUEL SYSTEM REPLACEMENT

If you’re finding metal in the fuel system of a BMW with the N47 engine, that’s a major red flag—usually pointing to fuel pump failure, specifically the high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP).
BMW typically does not recommend just cleaning the system—metal particles are very small and can cause recurring issues. A full system replacement or thorough professional cleaning is often required.

If metal is found:
Replace the HPFP
Flush or replace fuel lines
Clean or replace the fuel tank
Replace the fuel rail and injectors
Replace fuel filter
Inspect/replace low-pressure fuel pump (optional, depending on contamination)
