Mr. Mulbah Yombah Donates L$20,000 to LFA Lofa Sub-Association

Voinjama, Lofa County – Hon. Mulbah Yombah, a son of Lofa County and Chief Executive Officer of MySportswear, MySportswear Sports Academy, and Yombah Group of Companies, has donated Twenty Thousand Liberian Dollars (L$20,000.00) to the LFA Lofa Sub-Association.

The donation was made on Sunday, July 12, 2026, as part of Hon. Yombah's continued support for football development in Lofa County.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the LFA Lofa Sub-Association, Chairman Amos Fallah Kpalia expressed gratitude to Hon. Yombah for his generous contribution and commitment to the growth of football in the county.

Speaking during the presentation, Hon. Yombah encouraged other sons and daughters of Lofa County to invest in and support football development, emphasizing that collective efforts are needed to promote and strengthen the sport in the county.

INCHR Chairperson Challenges Suspension at Supreme Court, Seeks Reinstatement

MONROVIA, Liberia – Suspended Chairperson of the Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR), Cllr. T. Dempster Brown, has petitioned the Supreme Court of Liberia for a Writ of Prohibition to halt the Government's enforcement of his indefinite suspension and the appointment of Commissioner Mohammed E. Fahnbulleh as Acting Chairperson.

Represented by renowned constitutional lawyers Cllr. Pearl Brown Bull and Cllr. Tiawan S. Gongloe, Brown argues that the Executive Branch acted outside the law by suspending him without due process and in violation of the Act establishing the INCHR.

The petition, filed before the Supreme Court sitting in Chambers, contends that Brown's suspension was imposed before any investigation or hearing was conducted, thereby violating his constitutional right to due process.

Brown also dismisses allegations of forgery, failure to hold board meetings, and wrongful withholding of commissioners' salaries, asserting that documentary evidence and a previous Supreme Court ruling support his position.

According to the petition, the INCHR Act provides that a Chairperson serving a fixed six-year tenure can only be removed through impeachment and conviction by the Legislature for specified offenses, and not by executive suspension.

The petition further requests the Supreme Court to immediately restrain the Government from implementing the suspension and to restore the status quo while the matter is being heard.

Brown warns that continued executive interference threatens the independence and integrity of Liberia's National Human Rights Commission.

Lofa County Senator and Chairman of the Lofa County Sports Steering Committee, Hon. Momo Tarnuekollie Cyrus, has generously contributed Two Hundred Thousand Liberian Dollars (L$200,000.00) to the champions of the Lofa County Third Division League.

The contribution forms part of the Senator's ongoing commitment to supporting Lofa County's football development and assisting the county's representatives in the ongoing Liberia Football Association (LFA) National Third Division League Playoffs.

Under the donation, both Voinjama City FC and Lofa United FC will each receive One Hundred Thousand Liberian Dollars (L$100,000.00).

The funds were formally presented to Mr. Amos Fallah Kpalia, Chairman of the LFA Lofa Sub-Association, for onward disbursement to the two clubs.

The gesture highlights Senator Cyrus' continued dedication to promoting sports and empowering young talents across Lofa County.

The reported seizure of narcotics valued at approximately US$19 million at Liberia's main international airport has become one of the country's most discussed security issues in recent times. Understandably, Liberians have been looking to public officials for reassurance that the matter will be investigated thoroughly and transparently.

Among those many expected to hear from is Lofa County Senator Momo T. Cyrus, who serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Security, Intelligence and Veteran Affairs. Given the committee's oversight role on national security matters, many citizens anticipated at least a brief public statement acknowledging the seriousness of the case and assuring the public that the Senate would exercise its oversight responsibility.

While it is possible that the matter is highly sensitive or that ongoing investigations require caution, complete silence can leave room for speculation and uncertainty. A carefully worded statement expressing concern, encouraging confidence in the investigative process, and reaffirming the committee's commitment to accountability would have helped reassure the public without interfering with law enforcement.

Public confidence is strengthened when leaders communicate during moments of national concern. Whether through a press statement or an official update, timely communication helps demonstrate that institutions are attentive to issues affecting the country's security.

Minister Cornelia Wonkerleh Delivers as Promised; MVTC Trainers Say Students Will No Longer Buy Training Materials

The Ministry of Youth and Sports, on July 8, 2026, has fulfilled another major commitment to strengthening technical and vocational education, as Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Atty. Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah delivered on the promise made by the government of Liberia to fully equip the Monrovia Vocational Training Center (MVTC) with modern tools and equipment.

The intervention, which fulfills a commitment previously made by the government of Liberia to improve training conditions at the institution, has been warmly welcomed by trainers and management, who say it will significantly improve practical instruction while ending the long-standing practice of requiring students to purchase their own materials for hands-on training.

Receiving the equipment, members of the MVTC management team praised the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Youth and Sports for honoring its commitment, describing the delivery of the tools and equipment as a landmark investment in technical and vocational education and a demonstration of the Ministry's determination to improve the quality of skills training across Liberia.

Stephen N. Ngaima, a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Trainer who has served at MVTC since 2019, and Ecarus Douglas, Head of the Electrical Department for the past four years, described the fulfillment of the Minister's promise as a historic milestone that addresses one of the institution's most pressing challenges.

According to the trainers, inadequate tools and equipment had, for years, limited effective practical instruction, often forcing students to purchase their own materials before participating in workshop activities.

"Since I joined the Ministry in 2019, our greatest challenge has been the lack of materials, tools, and equipment. But what we are witnessing today is remarkable. This is the first time our workshop has been equipped to this level, and it is highly encouraging," Ngaima said.

He commended Minister Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah for not only making the commitment but also delivering on it, noting that the investment reflects her dedication to improving technical and vocational education for young Liberians.

"We will no longer ask students to bring their own materials. Everything we need is now available. Our responsibility is to dedicate our time and give our very best to ensure our students receive quality practical training. We are fully prepared and 100 percent equipped," he said.

Ngaima further expressed appreciation to the Government and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, describing the investment as tangible evidence of the Government of Liberia's commitment to equipping young people with practical, marketable skills.

He disclosed that the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Department received a comprehensive range of modern equipment and consumable materials, including refrigerants such as R600, R410, and R134a, used in refrigeration, air conditioning, and automotive cooling systems. Additional supplies include copper tubing in various sizes, silver brazing rods, brass powder, tubing cutters, MAP gas, propane gas, charging hoses, pressure washers, and numerous other specialized tools required for quality technical instruction.

According to Ngaima, the availability of these materials places the department in a strong position to provide industry-standard, hands-on training that will better prepare students for employment and entrepreneurship.

"The Ministry has done extremely well. We now have the materials in stock, and we are ready to train the next generation of refrigeration and air-conditioning technicians," he concluded.

The delivery of the equipment forms part of Minister Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah's broader vision to revitalize technical and vocational education in Liberia.

By fulfilling her promise to modernize MVTC, the Ministry has removed a major barrier to practical learning, ensuring that students can now focus on acquiring critical technical skills without the added financial burden of purchasing their own training materials.

7-Year-Old Girl Drowns in Open Well in Botemba Town, Lofa County

Botemba Town, Kolahun District, Lofa County - A seven-year-old girl, identified as Wendor Koryon, has tragically died after allegedly drowning in an uncovered well in Botemba Town, Gbandi Chiefdom, Kolahun District, Lofa County.

According to the child's friend, Korpo Kollie, the two children had gone to a nearby swamp to wash clothes when WeYndor reportedly decided to take a bath. Moments later, she allegedly slipped and fell into an open well located in the swamp area.

Residents said Korpo ran back to the town in distress and repeatedly called Wendor's name, prompting community members to follow her to the scene.

Upon arrival, they found the child unresponsive. Despite immediate rescue efforts, medical personnel later pronounced her dead.
Speaking through tears, the child's mother, Grace M. Mallay, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of her daughter.

"I never knew they had gone to wash clothes. I only learned that my daughter was gone. After all the struggles, I never imagined it would end this way," she said. Mallay disclosed that she had been ill for several days and was unaware that her daughter had gone to the swamp.

A 15-member jury later examined the body and found no signs of foul play, concluding that the child died as a result of drowning. The body was subsequently released to the family for burial.

Police say investigations into the incident are ongoing. Authorities are urging parents and guardians to closely supervise their children and are calling on communities to properly cover open wells to prevent similar tragedies.

The incident has heightened concerns about community safety in Gbandi Chiefdom, where several deaths have reportedly occurred in recent weeks, prompting calls for stronger preventive measures to protect children and other residents.

Superintendent Massaquoi Reaffirms Government’s Commitment to Road Development and County Progress in Lofa

Lofa County Superintendent J. Lavelah Massaquoi says the Unity Party-led government remains committed to fulfilling the promises made during the 2023 elections that brought President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to power, with road connectivity remaining one of its top priorities.

Speaking in an interview on Radio Life on Thursday, July 9, 2026, Superintendent Massaquoi said several major farm-to-market road projects are currently underway across Lofa County to improve transportation and boost economic activities.

He disclosed that two weeks ago, the Minister of Finance signed a US$30 million financing agreement for the Salayea-to-Konia Road Corridor, adding that groundbreaking for the project is expected to take place soon. He called on citizens to avoid politicizing development initiatives in the county.

The Superintendent also confirmed the disbursement of the 2025 County Development Fund (CDF), which is currently being distributed to various institutions across Lofa County.

He emphasized the importance of identifying and implementing priority development projects throughout the county.

According to him, Lofa County received US$186,666.00 under the 2025 County Development Fund.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Massaquoi said the Minister of Local Government has made a decision regarding the suspended paramount chiefs and that the affected chiefs are expected to resume their duties. He stressed that administrative decisions should be respected and not unnecessarily questioned.

The Superintendent also clarified recent criticism directed at him regarding a group known as Voinzorlayea-Gleebai and distanced himself from individuals he accused of organizing citizens to speak against the government.

According to him, his administration will not sit idly by while people mislead citizens by claiming that sons and daughters from Voinjama, Salayea, and Zorzor districts are not serving in key government positions.

He maintained that Voinzorlayea-Gleebai is not telling the truth to the people and highlighted several individuals from the three districts who currently hold positions in the Unity Party-led government. He further assured citizens that major development projects have been implemented in Voinjama District and other parts of Lofa County. He named a few development in Voinjama Districts "Barkuma–Vavamai Solar Plant, Sports Complex, Lofa County University, and Judiciary Complex, including the expected Housing Units." Superintendent Massaquoi added.

Superintendent J. Lavelah Massaquoi said he has no intention of contesting the 2029 elections, stressing that his priority is to deliver development projects in Salayea District and across Lofa County so that his achievements will speak for themselves.

In sports, Lofa County is set to be one of the host counties for the upcoming 2026 National County Sports Meet following a successful fundraising campaign in Monrovia.

Superintendent Massaquoi called on stakeholders and all citizens to prepare to welcome the counties that will be grouped with Lofa during the tournament.

House Approves CBL Request to Print Up to L$79 Billion in New Banknotes

The House of Representatives has authorized the Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) to print up to L$79 billion in new Liberian dollar banknotes following the adoption of a report from its Committee on Banking, Currency and Insurance.

According to the Committee, the new banknotes are intended primarily to replace worn and mutilated currency, improve the quality of Liberian banknotes, strengthen cash availability, and support the country's payment system.

The Committee emphasized that the authorization does not represent an immediate increase in the money supply. Instead, the CBL will determine when and how much currency to print and circulate based on economic conditions and the country's currency replacement needs.

To ensure transparency and accountability, the House directed the CBL to submit quarterly implementation reports, while the Committee on Banking, Currency and Insurance continues its oversight responsibilities throughout the process.
Following deliberations, lawmakers voted in favor of the authorization. The measure has now been forwarded to the Liberian Senate for concurrence.
