Thomas’ College Sub-Aqua Club (STCSAC) was the brainchild of two old boy diving enthusiasts Mr Srilal Perera and Mr Udaya Gunasekera to function as a satellite scuba diving club of the Sri Lanka Sub Aqua Club (SLSAC) under the safe hands of its Diving Officer (D.O.) Dr Malik Fernando who imparted to us the strict rules and valued traditions of the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC). Our Mission
To be an
environmentally friendly student oriented training organization that concentrates on safe scuba diving and snorkelling activities. Objectives
• To provide comprehensive dive training to its members.
• To inculcate a very strong sense of discipline and leadership.
• Conduct safe, environmentally friendly dives and activities in Sri Lanka.
• Participate in scientific studies that require diving. The club is funded by members, subscriptions and by funds raised by participation in projects and studies. The club owns some diving equipment that is available for hire to members at nominal rates. We are still the only school in Sri Lanka that offers snorkelling and SCUBA diving none competitive sport as an extra circular activity and when inaugurated back in 1993 was the only school in South East Asia. The club has trained many Thomians’ who are now professionals in diving and rank all the way as far up as PADI Master Instructor. Our training standards are very high and our divers are well recognised for their competence and confidence on following the very strict programme. Diving is has been accepted as a very important event in the day to day life of people for investigation underwater/sea and also attract tourists to Sri Lanka to assassinate the beauty under the sea. Life saving is also an important event which is essential in the present day context.
