A man decided to test if his Tesla Model 3 could charge itself using solar power. He added a portable solar roof and connected it to a power station. The result? Every hour of sunlight gave him about 1 mile of range!
While it’s not enough to replace Superchargers, it’s perfect for road trips, camping, or going off-grid.
The experiment shows how creativity can push the limits of technology even if it’s not the most practical solution. Sometimes, thinking outside the box leads to the coolest ideas.

Germany is preparing to open the world’s first commercial-scale air battery, a massive energy storage system that can hold power for months. This technology uses liquid air energy storage (LAES) — cooling air to -196°C until it becomes liquid, then releasing it to spin turbines when electricity is needed.
Unlike chemical batteries, LAES has no toxic materials, long lifespan, and low maintenance, making it a promising solution for renewable energy storage. The system can help balance the grid during windless nights or cloudy days, ensuring steady power supply from clean energy sources.
If successful, Germany’s air battery could be a blueprint for global large-scale renewable energy storage, reducing our dependence on fossil fuels.

In one of the most remarkable climate-tech innovations to date, leaf-shaped solar panels are now being used to harvest both clean electricity and drinkable water directly from desert air. These panels use hydrophilic materials that capture water v***r during cool nights and condense it into liquid by sunrise, while their photovoltaic cells generate solar power throughout the day.
Originally tested in arid regions like the Middle East and North Africa, these hybrid devices are opening doors to sustainable living in some of the planet’s harshest environments. They offer a two-in-one solution to water scarcity and off-grid energy access—perfect for remote communities, refugee camps, or desert agriculture. As the climate crisis worsens, technologies like this could redefine survival in dry zones.

Germany is set to launch the world’s first commercial-scale AirBattery system which stores clean energy using compressed air in underground salt caverns. Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries, this system uses no lithium or rare earth materials, making it more sustainable and geopolitically stable. According to Interesting Engineering, surplus renewable electricity, like wind or solar, is used to compress air, which is then stored in airtight salt caverns deep underground. When energy is needed, the compressed air is released through water chambers to drive turbines and generate electricity. Each cavern can store 3 to 8 GWh of energy, enough to power tens of thousands of homes for days or even weeks.
According to CTIF, the system is designed to operate for decades with minimal degradation, and pilot tests have already demonstrated over 60% round-trip efficiency. The first facility is expected to be commissioned between 2027 and 2028, and Germany has over 400 suitable caverns, offering massive potential for scaling up. It’s a clean, durable, and scalable solution to one of renewable energy’s biggest challenges: storing power when the sun isn’t shining and the wind isn’t blowing.
