In a thrilling promotion playoff held in Kurunegala, Maligawatha Youth triumphed over Gampola FC to secure their place in Division 1 football.

The match began with both teams showing determination, creating opportunities but failing to score during the first half. The game’s momentum shifted in the 60th minute when Mohamed Shafran, wearing jersey number 11, netted a decisive goal, giving the Colombo-based team the lead.

Despite relentless attempts by Gampola FC to equalize, their efforts were thwarted. Mohamed Hussain (jersey no. 12) cemented the victory for Maligawatha Youth in the 87th minute with a remarkable long-range strike, ending the match at 2-0.
