A 12% literacy gap with women at 81.3% and men at 69.4% is clear evidence that boys were already falling behind in the Caribbean education system (Miller, 2000, UNESCO).

Those who were around 15 at the time are now part of the millennial generation. This early literacy disadvantage may help explain why many men today face lower income outcomes and reduced economic mobility.

If we don’t address boys’ literacy early, the long-term consequences will continue to show up in the workforce.
