In Laos, the World Food Programme concentrates on four priorities: ensuring that people have enough food throughout the year, ending poor diets, coping with the changing climate, and helping Lao authorities to address all these challenges.

WFP is supporting women smallholder farmers in two districts of Houaphan province through a combination of climate-resilient agricultural training, nutrition education, financial literacy, and investment planning, as well as cash assistance to buy seeds and tools.
Thanks to the Government of Ireland, farmers are gaining the confidence to invest in their futures, strengthening their livelihoods, improving nutrition and food security, while also building their resilience to withstand climate shocks. 🌱💙

A grant from Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) has helped Souksavanh, who lives in Sekong province, change her perspective on her future.
Once forced to leave home for Thailand in search of better income opportunities, Souksavanh completed training provided by WFP in her village. She is now raising layer chickens and growing vegetables to supply to schools and markets.
Today, Souksavanh earns enough to support her family and can stay close to care for her elderly parents.
Thanks to Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) for supporting not only schoolchildren, but also livelihoods that help families build a more stable and hopeful future at home.
