📊 Statistics: Powering Decisions in Kenya 🇰🇪
Statistics play a crucial role in shaping Kenya’s future. From government planning to business growth and public health, data helps leaders and organizations make informed decisions that improve lives.
Here are a few ways statistics are used in Kenya:
📈 Economic Planning: Data collected by institutions like the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics helps the government plan budgets, track inflation, and measure economic growth.
🏥 Healthcare Improvements: Statistics help monitor diseases, vaccination rates, and healthcare access, guiding policies that protect communities.
🌾 Agriculture Development: Farmers and agricultural agencies use statistical data to understand weather patterns, crop yields, and market trends.
🎓 Education Planning: Enrollment numbers, exam results, and literacy rates help shape education policies and resource allocation.
🚧 Infrastructure & Development: Population and urbanization data help plan roads, housing, and public services in growing cities.
In today’s digital age, data is more than numbers—it’s a tool for progress. By understanding and using statistics, Kenya can continue to make smarter decisions and build a stronger future for everyone.

What Is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?
Artificial intelligence is the ability of machines to mimic human cognitive functions, including learning, problem-solving, and decision-making. AI achieves this through various techniques, including machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing.
The global artificial intelligence market size was valued at USD 196.63 billion in 2024 and is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 37.3% from 2024 to 2030.
AI technologies are increasingly used in core industries such as healthcare, finance, manufacturing, defense, and retail. Interestingly, businesses as well as individuals have adopted AI in some form or another.
Analysis aids in early disease detection and personalized treatment plans. AI also helps pharma and life science companies test and develop medication.
Finance and insurance: AI algorithms are used extensively in fraud detection and credit risk assessment. Insurance providers are using AI models and data analytics for accurate forecasting and prediction
Manufacturing: AI optimizes production processes, increasing efficiency and reducing waste. AI and machine learning are also helping consumers and OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) with predictive maintenance
Retail: Personalized recommendations and AI-driven dynamic pricing boost customer engagement and sales. Major players in the retail space are also bringing in autonomous stores that allow customers to skip the checkout line. These stores use AI technology and sensors to track your shopping and automatically charge your account
Marketing: Marketing teams have leveraged AI solutions for lead generation, retention, content generation, and engagement. Content creators are using AI tools to create and disseminate content across text, images, and videos

Role of Demography and Statistics in City Planning
City planning
Nibedita Mohanta
November 9, 2022
Good city planning needs to be backed with very detailed economic, social, demographic, and environmental data to support all of the important decisions that need to be taken, says, Stefan Schweinfest, Director of the United Nations Statistics Division and the UN-GGIM Global Secretariat, in an interview with Geospatial World.
What is the Role of Statistics in Urban Planning?
Statistics is absolutely critical in urban planning because we are surrounded by numbers. And at the local level, they offer the best opportunity of integrating different statistical information. Most of the statistical information is collected at the local level because surveys and censuses are done at the local level, which is why it is easiest to see and understand the need for the integration of information.
What roadmap should cities adopt for a precise database actionable approach?
At the city level, you have the same challenges that are there at the national level. There’s a need to bring different players together September-October 2022 | www.geospatialworld.net | 21 for integrated information and information-based decisions.
For instance, traffic planning will have many repercussions on the local economy, and on local access to social services, education and health. Proper city planning has to be backed by very detailed economic, social, demographic, and environmental data to support all important planning decisions that have to be taken.
Perhaps the clearest way to see that is at the city level where you can really see the immediate connection between the various dimensions.
Demography is at the heart of all city projects, and for that, we need accurate information. How do you view statistics geospatially for a sustainable future?
Demography has always been the first contact point for geospatial information because census cartography has always existed.
In order to conduct the census, which is the most basic demographic data operation, we need good cartographic and geospatial information.
Nowadays, all of the information that is collected is geocoded. In the future, it will provide us with a whole new wealth of opportunities on how we can identify social and economic needs at the decision-making level, including the local municipality level.
