Resilience.
The history of the Turkana woman is deeply intertwined with the rich cultural heritage of the Turkana people of northwestern Kenya.
Traditionally, Turkana women have played vital roles in the survival and continuity of their communities.
They are the primary caretakers of their families, responsible for building homes (manyattas), fetching water, preparing food, and raising children.
Skilled in beadwork and craft, they preserve cultural identity through elaborate ornaments and traditional attire.
Although Turkana society is patriarchal, women have always had a strong presence in decision-making within families and clans.
Despite facing challenges such as limited access to education, early marriages, and harsh climatic conditions, Turkana women have shown remarkable resilience.
In modern times, many have emerged as leaders, educators, and advocates for gender equality, health, and education
