Filmed Saturday, May 9th, this 6-mile (9.6 km) walk climbs through the medieval hill town where St. Francis was born — up narrow stone lanes to the Cathedral of San Rufino, the Roman amphitheater, and the Rocca Maggiore fortress crowning the hilltop, then down to the magnificent Basilica of St. Francis, where we go inside to see the fresco cycles by Giotto and Cimabue.

We even caught Assisi during Calendimaggio, its medieval spring festival, so you'll spot performers in period costume along the way.
