معرفی چهره های برجسته ایرانی آمریکایی

پروفسور غلام پیمان جراح و فوق تخصص مشهور چشم پزشکی، ‌زاده شیراز و با بیش از ١٣۵ اختراع پزشکی و مهندسی از برگزیدگان دریافت مدال ملی فناوری و نوآوری امریکا در سال ۲۰۱۲ است. از مشهور‌ترین ابداعات او عمل جراحی «لیزیک» جهت تصحیح عیوب انکسارى چشم است. مدال ملی علم و مدال ملی فناوری و نوآوری، بالا‌ترین مدال افتخاری علمی آمریکاست که به دانشمندان، مهندسان و مخترعان بر‌تر اعطا مى شود. وی این مدال را ماه پیش ( ژانویه ۲۰۱۳ ) از رئیس جمهور آمریکا دریافت کرد.

آقای پیمان در شیراز متولد شد. در ۱۹ سالگی برای تحصیل در رشته پزشکی عازم آلمان گردید و در سال ۱۳۴۱ خورشیدی موفق به کسب مدرک دکتری حرفه‌ای در رشته پزشکی عمومی در دانشگاه دویسبورگ شد. وی در سال ۱۳۴۸ دوره تخصص خود را در رشته چشم‌پزشکی در دانشگاه اسن آلمان به پایان رساند و برای دوره پسادکتری به ایالات متحده امریکا آمد و از سال ۱۳۵۰ خورشیدی به عنوان استادیار گروه چشم‌پزشکی در دانشگاه کالیفرنیا در لس‌آنجلس مشغول به فعالیت شد. در سال ۱۳۶۸ خورشیدی با ثبت اختراع رسمی جراحی لیزیک انقلاب بزرگی در چشم‌پزشکی جهان ایجاد نمود و در سال ۱۳۸۴ خورشیدی با نظر بیش از ۳۰۰۰۰ نفر از چشم‌پزشکان جهان به عنوان یکی از سیزده عضو زنده تالار نام آوران چشم‌پزشکی جهان انتخاب شد. از وی بیش از ١٣۵ عنوان اختراع به ثبت رسیده است.
