As Iraq joins the excitement of the World Cup, football continues to inspire children far beyond stadiums and screens.

In Hamdania, Ninewa, children joined football activities linked with Spiritual Nurture of Children (SNC) sessions, where play becomes a tool for learning and healing.

“Football is not just a game, it teaches us patience and striving to achieve goals,” one child shared.

For many, it means strength, friendship, wellbeing, and pure joy.

On local fields, football is helping children grow with confidence, connection, and hope.



مع مشاركة العراق في كأس العالم هذا العام، تعم أجواء الحماس والفخر أنحاء البلاد، فيما تواصل كرة القدم إلهام الأطفال بما يتجاوز الملاعب والشاشات.

في الحمدانية بمحافظة نينوى، شارك الأطفال في أنشطة كرة القدم المرتبطة بجلسات الرعاية الروحية للأطفال، حيث يصبح اللعب وسيلة للتعلم والتعافي.

يقول أحد الأطفال: "كرة القدم ليست مجرد لعبة، بل تعلمنا الصبر والسعي لتحقيق الأهداف."

بالنسبة للكثيرين، تعني كرة القدم القوة والصداقة والعافية والفرح.

وفي الملاعب المحلية، تساعد كرة القدم الأطفال على النمو بثقة، وتعزز لديهم روح الترابط والأمل.

Today, on International Children’s Day (1 June), we are reminded that children are not only the future, they are already shaping the present.

In his latest article, “Children leading change: Voices from Iraq shaping a better future,” Biruk Kebede Beyene, Country Director of World Vision Iraq, highlights a powerful truth we see every day across our programmes: when children are given safe spaces and meaningful opportunities, they lead change with courage and clarity.

From Iraq, young voices like Rafef (16) and Yar (11) are stepping into global conversations on issues such as migration and climate change. Rafef is actively engaging through the Global Children’s Council, while Yar has shared deeply human reflections on migration as “half happy and half sad,” and is now nominated to represent Iraq at the IMRF 2026 side event.

Their voices remind us that participation is not symbolic, it is transformative.

On this Children’s Day, we celebrate every child in Iraq and beyond who is speaking up, leading, and shaping a better future.

Today, World Vision Iraq participated in the First Annual Forum on Advancing National and International Cooperation for the Implementation of Universal Periodic Review Recommendations (2025–2029), held in coordination with the Lutheran World Federation.

The forum brought together national and international partners to strengthen cooperation, exchange experiences, and support the implementation of Iraq’s fourth cycle recommendations. Discussions focused on promoting coordination, sustainable development, stability, and long-term prosperity across Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

World Vision Iraq values the importance of collaborative dialogue and remains committed to supporting efforts that contribute to human rights, sustainable development, and stronger communities.



شاركت البصيرة العالمية في العراق اليوم في المنتدى السنوي الأول لتعزيز التعاون الوطني والدولي لتنفيذ توصيات الاستعراض الدوري الشامل للأعوام ٢٠٢٥–٢٠٢٩، والذي أُقيم بالتنسيق مع الاتحاد اللوثري العالمي.
