CBDT has launched a nationwide action against intermediaries and syndicates involved in filing income tax returns with bogus donation deductions and exemptions.

Data analytics flagged over 2 lakh taxpayers who claimed suspicious deductions of nearly Rs 11,000 crore through fake or non existent RUPPs and charitable organisations.

Around 54,000 taxpayers have already revised their returns, withdrawing ineligible claims worth Rs 1,400 crore. The probe exposed organised networks of agents, misuse of CSR linked trusts, fake donation receipts, and promotion of guaranteed refunds through social media, cinema ads, and messaging platforms.
