Standing Against Dowry — Because Dignity Has No Price Tag

Today, the Women Cell of Binandi Chandra Medhi College, Ramdia took a powerful step forward by organizing an Awareness Drive against the Menace of Dowry among students and staff of the college. Education is the most potent weapon against social evil — and today, that weapon was proudly raised.

The dowry system in India, rooted in ancient property transfer customs, gradually transformed into a coercive social practice that has claimed countless lives through harassment, abuse, and bride burning — prompting landmark legislation like the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 and Section 498A IPC, yet the struggle for enforcement and social change continues.

With awareness drives like today's reaching the grassroots level, the future holds promise — where educated youth will build communities that value a bride's worth not in gold and gifts, but in respect, equality, and human dignity.
