LG Manoj Sinha Issues Strong Warning Against Drug Nexus; Assures Strict Action Against Anyone Involved
Altaf Hussain
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has issued a strong and unequivocal warning against the growing menace of narcotics and reaffirmed the administrationโs uncompromising commitment to eradicating the drug network from Jammu and Kashmir. In a firm statement reflecting the government's zero-tolerance approach, the Lieutenant Governor made it clear that no individual, irrespective of position or influence, will be spared if found involved in supporting or facilitating the drug ecosystem.
Addressing concerns over the spread of narcotics and its damaging impact on society, the Lieutenant Governor stated that the administration remains fully committed to dismantling every layer of the drug network and ensuring that strict legal action is taken against all those responsible for promoting or protecting such activities.
The Lieutenant Governor stated, โToday I want to state unequivocally: whether an official or anyone in public life, if they are in any way connected to the drug network or lend it support, they will face strict legal consequences.โ
Reiterating the administrationโs resolve, he emphasized that the fight against narcotics is not merely a law enforcement challenge but a larger social responsibility aimed at safeguarding the future of youth and preserving the social fabric of Jammu and Kashmir.
He further asserted that no individual occupying a position of authority or responsibility would be allowed to misuse their office or influence to shield illegal activities. Stressing transparency and accountability, the Lieutenant Governor conveyed a clear message that there would be no room for compromise in matters concerning public welfare and security.
In a particularly strong remark, he said, โI assure the people that if even the slightest trace of this infection has seeped into our system, it will be mercilessly cut out without hesitation.โ
The statement is being viewed as one of the administrationโs strongest messages yet against the narcotics network and indicates a renewed push toward intensifying anti-drug efforts across the Union Territory. It also underscores the governmentโs intention to ensure that the fight against drugs remains free from political influence, administrative interference, or institutional protection.
The Lieutenant Governor emphasized that protecting the younger generation from the devastating consequences of substance abuse remains one of the administrationโs top priorities. He observed that drug addiction not only destroys individuals and families but also poses a serious threat to social stability and long-term development.
He further highlighted the importance of collective participation in the fight against drugs and called upon citizens, social organizations, educational institutions, and law enforcement agencies to work together to identify and eliminate the menace from society.
The administration has in recent years intensified anti-narcotics operations and awareness initiatives across Jammu and Kashmir, with authorities repeatedly asserting that a comprehensive and coordinated strategy is being adopted to combat the issue at every level.
The Lieutenant Governorโs statement has sent a strong message that accountability will prevail and that any person found supporting or facilitating drug-related activities, regardless of status or position, will face strict legal action under the law.
The administration reiterated its commitment to creating a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir and ensuring a safer and healthier future for the people, particularly the youth of the region.

Anjuman Ittehad Gujjar and Bakerwal Raises Strong Concerns Over Ongoing Demolition Drive, Calls for Protection of Tribal Rights in Jammu & Kashmir
Altaf Hussain
Mendhar, May 22: A detailed press conference was organised today at the Mendhar office of Anjuman Ittehad Gujjar and Bakerwal under the leadership of its President, Tazeem Choudhary, to address the ongoing demolition drive reportedly impacting Gujjar and Bakerwal communities across different parts of Jammu and Kashmir. The press conference witnessed participation from members of the organisation, community representatives, social activists, and local residents who voiced their concern regarding the situation faced by tribal families.
Addressing the media, the President and members of the organisation expressed deep concern over the demolition of houses, temporary shelters, livestock structures, and other establishments belonging to Gujjar and Bakerwal families. They stated that the ongoing developments have created an atmosphere of fear, uncertainty, and distress among tribal communities, particularly among economically weaker and nomadic families whose livelihoods largely depend upon traditional practices and seasonal migration.
Speaking during the conference, representatives said that a large section of the Gujjar and Bakerwal population belongs to marginalized and underprivileged communities, and any action affecting their shelter and means of livelihood has severe humanitarian implications. They stressed that many tribal families have been residing in various areas for generations and have established deep social, cultural, and traditional links with those regions.
The organisation maintained that while administrative procedures and legal frameworks are important, implementation of any drive affecting tribal populations must be carried out with sensitivity and a humanitarian approach. They urged authorities to ensure that innocent and poor families do not suffer unnecessarily and that every case is reviewed with fairness and transparency.
Members of Anjuman Ittehad Gujjar and Bakerwal further appealed to the administration to conduct proper verification of land records and examine all relevant documents before initiating any action. They emphasized that tribal communities have unique historical and traditional patterns of habitation and movement, which require careful consideration under existing legal and constitutional safeguards.
The speakers also demanded that proper rehabilitation and resettlement mechanisms be put in place wherever families are displaced or affected. They stated that no family should be left homeless or deprived of basic necessities and security without suitable arrangements. According to the organisation, rehabilitation should be treated as a priority and should be undertaken in a manner that safeguards the dignity and rights of affected people.
During the interaction, community representatives highlighted that Gujjar and Bakerwal communities have played a significant role in preserving the social and cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir and have contributed immensely to society over the years. They said the identity, traditions, and livelihood patterns of tribal communities deserve recognition and protection.
The organisation also appealed to the government and concerned authorities to prevent any alleged harassment of tribal families and adopt a consultative approach to address the issue. They called for meaningful dialogue involving community leaders, tribal representatives, civil society members, and government authorities so that concerns can be addressed peacefully and amicably.
The speakers reiterated that any issue involving tribal communities should be handled through cooperation and discussion rather than actions that may create fear and uncertainty among vulnerable sections of society. They urged policymakers to uphold constitutional protections available to tribal populations and ensure that the rights and welfare of Gujjar and Bakerwal communities remain safeguarded.
Concluding the press conference, the leadership of Anjuman Ittehad Gujjar and Bakerwal reaffirmed its commitment to standing with affected families and raising issues concerning the welfare, dignity, and constitutional rights of tribal communities. The organisation appealed for immediate intervention from higher authorities to ensure justice, humanitarian consideration, and a balanced resolution of the matter.
