It is a common saying that in Goa in
I every home you will find at least one
musician. However, not all of these musicians land up making a mark beyond
the four walls of their home. Fame takes
ot only hard work and talent but also a
degree of luck. Twenty one year-old 'Anurag Mohn'
from Porvorim, Goa has all of these factors
working for him in the right combination. Considered Goa's youngest music
director,
composer & singer, he is steadily
but surely creating a niche for himself in
Bollywood and for him there is no looking
back. "Even until a few years ago I had not thought of taking up music as a career. My tryst with music started at the age of five when I took up playing the keyboard and participated in various competitions. From then on I developed interest in music. In the year 2012, I participated in
the Kingfisher 'Voice of Goa' and reached
e top five", says Anurag, who left college
hen he realised that music was his true calling. Anurag has not taken any formal training in music and believes that if 'one follows ones passion, the rest follows'. "I took two months training in basic vocals in Indian Classical music in Goa. I think no one can teach you how to compose a tune, it is something you are born with", says a confident Anurag whose latest music track titled 'Kho Gaya', released by Times Music in June 2014, was in the top ten recommended romantic songs of June 2014 by Times Music. The video of the song features
Anurag Mohn and Miss Universe India finalist, Neha Murali. The young boy is focusedandwants to pursue a career in Bollywood. "After leaving college in
2012. I went to Mumbai and started working on
my music", says Anurag whose inspiration is music director Mithoon (Tum Hi Ho
fame) and singer KK. Speaking about his struggle in Mumbai he says, "I am quite aware of the struggle. You have to visit music studios, deliver your music CDs, and wait for the call. But, then I did something different. I placed an advertisement of my music on the OLX website where I gave links to all my music. I got my first call within four days of placing that advertisement." Anurag made his debut as a music director and singer in the feature film "Let's Change" a movie based on the clean Gujarat awareness campaign. More recently he has composed Bollywood songs for the movie titled "Four Pillars of Basement" which is released on Novemeber 2015. He has even worked with singers like Javed Ali, Abhijeet Sawant and Aroon Bakshi. "Javed Ali is a popular singer. He is such a humble person and he really enjoyed what I composed for him. For me it was a pleasure to direct someone like him", he adds. Anurag who originally hails from Bihar has settled in Goa for the past seven years. For him Goa is more than home. "There is music awareness in Goa. If we
look back most of the music arrangers of 1950's and thereafter were from Goa like Anthony Gonsalves, etc. Also Goa is such a peaceful and quiet place; it inspires me". Anurag mostly composes romantic tracks and wants to follow the cunent trend in this genre. "If given a chance I will not like to compose an item number. I will not enjoy making such songs. I like the romantic genre and songs of Aashiqui 2 really inspire me.When Mahesh Bhatt makes Aashiqui 3 I hope I get the opportunity to direct the music for it",
concludes Anurag.
