RBI Credit Card Data โ January 2026 Update
The RBI has released the latest credit card numbers for January 2026, and the Indian cards market continues to expand at a steady pace.
Total active credit cards in India have now reached 11.66 crore, reflecting sustained consumer adoption and continued push by banks across segments.
๐ฆ Market Leaders
HDFC Bank remains firmly in the top position with 2.61 crore cards, continuing its strong dominance in the cards business.
SBI Card holds the No.2 spot at 2.19 crore, supported by its wide national reach.
ICICI Bank and Axis Bank follow with 1.87 crore and 1.57 crore cards respectively, maintaining consistent growth momentum.
๐ Mid-Tier Private Banks
Banks like Kotak Mahindra Bank (45.9 lakh), IDFC First Bank (44.0 lakh), and RBL Bank (45.8 lakh) continue to build scale, particularly among urban salaried customers.
IndusInd Bank, YES Bank, and Federal Bank also show steady but measured expansion.

Among PSU banks, Bank of Baroda (30.9 lakh) and Canara Bank (10.8 lakh) remain the key contributors. Growth here continues to be cautious and portfolio-focused.
