The Probe
On June 4, 2026, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant delivered a lecture on Artificial Intelligence and International Law at Birkbeck, University of London.
During the Q&A session, an attendee raised concerns about growing hostility to dissent in India and referred to the CJI's controversial remarks made in open court on May 15, in which he compared unemployed youth to cockroaches and parasites.
The organiser blocked the question. The CJI did not intervene. The video went viral overnight. The Indian High Commission in London issued a formal press statement.

In India, there is no law that requires authorities to warn the public before a road is blocked for a VVIP convoy. No notice. No timeline. No apology.
On May 31, a man in Bengaluru was rushing his pregnant wife to the hospital when the road was blocked for the Karnataka Governor's convoy. Traffic was halted for nearly 30 minutes. He stepped out of his car, sat down in the middle of the road, and asked the traffic cop — "Just because the Governor is a VIP, does that mean we are nobody?"
The video went viral.
