When the gods requested Shiva to produce a male heir, He merged with his wife Parvati to create Ardhnarishvar, who is half man and half woman. This style of painting is called Bharni (meaning 'filled'). It is made directly on the wall, just like traditional Mithila art was painted on mud walls of the houses! ❤️

Kohbar literally means “the bride’s room” and originated 2500 years ago in Janakpur, where it is still practiced. This exquisite piece is made on silk fabric with the traditional bridal color of red. It was made thirty years ago and yet has not lost any of its radiance.
