Dahung, Arunachal Pradesh

In a landmark initiative to promote holistic education, cultural preservation, and ethical research, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed today between the Central Institute for Himalayan Cultural Studies (CIHCS), Dahung, Arunachal Pradesh, and the Flowering Dharma Centre Trust, Leh. The collaboration marks the establishment of the International Institute for Culture & Ethics Bomdila, an institution dedicated to advancing Social, Emotional, and Ethical (SEE) Learning and Classical Indian Wisdom inspired by the Nalanda Tradition.

The momentous ceremony was graced by the presence of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Pema Khandu Ji, along with Hon’ble Home Minister Shri Mama Natung Ji, Shri Tsetan Chombey, MLA Khalaktang, Shri Tenzin Glow, MLA Thrizino, Shri Gurmet Dorjey, Director of CIHCS Dahung, Shri Thupten Kalden, Director of DoKAA and Member of IICE, Flowering Dharma and SEE Learning, and Smt. Lobsang Wangmu, Level-1 Facilitator of SEE Learning and Founding Director of the International Institute for Culture & Ethics, Leh. The event was also attended by other dignitaries, officials, and students from across the Himalayan region, reflecting a shared commitment to integrate compassion-based education within the broader framework of academic learning.

As part of this partnership, the five-storey CIHCS building located in Bomdila was officially handed over to the International Institute for Culture & Ethics, Leh, to commence its academic and cultural programs in Arunachal Pradesh. The facility includes a computer room, offices, and training spaces, offering a fully equipped environment for research, training, and educational activities under the joint initiative.

Speaking on the occasion, Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu Ji congratulated the collaboration and lauded the efforts of both institutions and underlined the importance of SEE Learning, which was initiated under the guidance of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama in collaboration with Emory University, USA. The Chief Minister emphasised that education today must go beyond academics to nurture compassion, resilience, and ethical awareness among students. He assured full support and cooperation from the state government for the successful implementation of SEE Learning and related initiatives in Arunachal Pradesh.

The establishment of the International Institute for Culture & Ethics – Bomdila marks a significant milestone in linking the spiritual and educational legacies of Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh. Through this collaboration, both regions will work together to strengthen the study and practice of Indian wisdom traditions, foster intercultural research, and promote youth development based on ethical and emotional learning.

The event concluded with expressions of gratitude from all participating dignitaries, reaffirming the shared vision of nurturing a new generation of compassionate and ethically grounded leaders for the Himalayan region and beyond.
